Also, are my kids just heavy sleepers or do some of you have neighbors with absurdly loud mowers? I've mowed OUR lawn while our son naps (2 yo) with no issues.
Twice in the last couple of weeks it's gone on past 9:00 pm, probably to 9:15 or so. I do wonder if they have really loud mowers, because we even have a white noise machine that we run for our child and it's still loud. I just wondered how they could be mowing in the dark? That doesn't seem like a very good idea. We LOVE our neighbors, and would never complain because it's our child who has the issue sleeping - it's just hard to juggle.

I think most people's limits of 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. seem rational - and you're right, naps really vary by child.

10 to 5 seems like the best time range possible. I do understand a little wiggle room if it's a hot day.

Yea, 9 is definitely weird, especially if they are consistently doing it that late.

    Re: Mowing the Lawn

My husband won't mow before 10:00 am but sometimes has mowed as late as 9:30 pm. We have a huge yard and the only house close enough to hear is occupied by a young couple with no kids.

8 am is the earliest, dark is the latest. Although after my idiot neighbors had a pool party until 4 am, I did weed eat for an hour straight (on that side of the house) starting at 8 am.

    Re: Mowing the Lawn

I dont start until the grass is at least dry from the morning dew, which is usually 9 or 10sih. As long as there is still day light out, Ill mow at night.

A fun topic would be to get into snow-blowing. I usually will start that at 6 AM on weekdays so I can get it done before work. I'm not the only one who starts that early in my neighborhood so I don't feel bad about that.

Yeah, I start that at 6:15-6:30. No choice really, and everyone around me seems to do the same (provided that they work).

    Re: Mowing the Lawn

I usually help with the mowing since hubby is gone 7am-6:30pm, earliest he can get to the lawn on a weekday is after 7:30pm and ours takes about an hour. When I mow I usually mow during naptime--the younger two have windows that face the front lawn. 90% of the time it doesn't wake them up. We need to mow today so I will either do it during naptime or have my 11yr and I switch off between mowing and watching the other kids.

    Re: Mowing the Lawn

If it is a weekend I would mow between 10 am and 3 pm most times. Lots of times I will mow during our son's nap time as it doesn't wake him up. I will mow as early as 8 am and have mowed as late as finishing at 9:30 pm if I am not able to get it done at my normal times because of weather/trips/events and such.

There are not any young kids (except ours) within 5 houses and nobody is that old around us either so most people are awake at "normal" times.

Step 1: Cut a hole in the box.

    Re: Mowing the Lawn

On a weekend I'm usually sleeping til at least 2pm. On a weekday I would do it right after work because I get lazy after I eat so I'm normally done by 7 or 8. As for acceptable, I don't really care because I can sleep through my next door neighbors mowing with my bedroom windows open.

    Re: Mowing the Lawn

My kids could always sleep through anything, but then they were always around noise even as babies. My sister was one of those were everyone has to whisper when the kid was sleeping two stories above. We all took to leaving the house at grandparents house whenever they were trying to get the kid to sleep so we wouldn't get yelled at, even took two of our kids, who were younger, to the only thing in town still open, Subway, so they wouldn't make noise and disturb their cousin. They fell asleep in Subway in their carseats.

    Re: Mowing the Lawn

I'll probably stop mowing by 8:30-45 (this year its whenever the hell it is dry!)

I typically don't like to start until late morning. In the fall, I mow at noon every Sunday so I can listen to NFL updates as the games get started.
