All I needed to read was the headline. Should have stopped there.

Re: Ann Coulters informed take on Soccer

I checked after reading that the first time, and indeed all 4 of my great-grandfathers were born in the US and I've been a die-hard soccer fan since 1994.

I know it's redundant because it was written by Ann Coulter, but that is seriously one of the stupidest things any human being has ever written.

She's got quite a lot of experience with things involving balls.

    Because she has testicles.

    Because she's a dude.

Ok, I get that some people don't like soccer, that's fine with me. But to tell me that the Customary System is better than Metric System that is where I draw the 2.54 centimeter width line in the sand.

Re: Ann Coulters informed take on Soccer

Right from the first line the column is awful. Ann apparently didn't think to compare the length of a soccer game to that of any of the other sports that she espouses.

Waste of time bothering with the rest of it.

Re: Ann Coulters informed take on Soccer

I tend to agree with this one

I resent the force-fed aspect of soccer. The same people trying to push soccer on Americans are the ones demanding that we love HBO's "Girls," light-rail, Beyonce and Hillary Clinton. The number of New York Times articles claiming soccer is "catching on" is exceeded only by the ones pretending women's basketball is fascinating.

I tire of the media trying to ram soccer down my throat , but that whole article is seriously stupid.

I dislike soccer, and I'm politically conservative, but I don't even have to read that article to tell you that Ann Coulter is a dumb c**t.

Re: Ann Coulters informed take on Soccer

i know she's trolling but just some bad points

Individual achievement is not a big factor in soccer. In a real sport, players fumble passes, throw bricks and drop fly balls — all in front of a crowd. When baseball players strike out, they're standing alone at the plate. But there's also individual glory in home runs, touchdowns and slam-dunks.

Obviously hasn't watched soccer at all. Yesterday both games had a player basically saving the game (Rodriguez and Julio Cesar). Umm, penalty kicks? They are all alone yesterday. Again, if you are gonna troll, know what you are talking about.

    • You can't use your hands in soccer. (Thus eliminating the danger of having to catch a fly ball.) What sets man apart from the lesser beasts, besides a soul, is that we have opposable thumbs. Our hands can hold things. Here's a great idea: Let's create a game where you're not allowed to use them!
what does this have to do with anything?

The prospect of either personal humiliation or major injury is required to count as a sport. Most sports are sublimated warfare. As Lady Thatcher reportedly said after Germany had beaten England in some major soccer game: Don't worry. After all, twice in this century we beat them at their national game.

Like the Chile PK takers yesterday?

Re: Ann Coulters informed take on Soccer

It's stupid when people take common events (people watching soccer) and make them political. I'm pretty conservative but whether or not people watch soccer doesn't really affect who they are or their development. I don't even understand how this became an actual article.
