    Really Bob Sanders?

Ok this could go in this forum or In-State Rivals but regardless the highest paid safety? I guess I can't really argue with it right now, he does seem to make the Indy defense go.

He's a player for sure, regardless of where he played college ball.

    Re: Really Bob Sanders?

He is pretty damn good. And makes a lot of big plays, which is what you want in a safety.

    Re: Really Bob Sanders?

I think he is the best safety, and the hardest hitting, toughest safety in the league. He is the heart and soul of the Indianopolis defense.

    Re: Really Bob Sanders?

He's a good safety, just not certain he's good enough to warrant getting that kind of pay day.

CyBookie on when the first half-billion dollar contract gets signed?

    Re: Really Bob Sanders?

I wouldn't take him over Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu, who both have significantly smaller contracts. He is awesome in run coverage, not so awesome in pass coverage, but still solid. The problem is he only plays about 9 games per year over the past 4 years. They should have had the contract more laden with playing time incentives IMO. They will pay for this down the road -safeties shouldn't earn $7M per year...

    Re: Really Bob Sanders?

Sean Taylor was the best safety in the NFL, so I guess Bob is now by default.

Kind of like in topgun when Maverik gets into topgun cause Couger freaks out.

    Re: Really Bob Sanders?

Not sure if he's the best safety or not, but whenever I see a pro athlete get this type of money it's just dumb. Salaries of professional sports is out of control. If there was a cap of 1 million a year per player put forth 15 years ago that adjusted for inflation would we see any difference in who is playing football or the quality of the sport? The only difference would be less whining, no hold-outs, and fewer spoiled rich (TO type) players. The game would be the focus.

It just doesn't take salaries of 30 million over 5 years to encourage and reward these guys. They would do the same for 1-2 million per year. It would also encourage these guys to play four years in college and get a degree so they have protection in the event the pro's doesn't work out or they have a short career. It seems now you hear of people putting all their eggs in the "I am going to make tons of money in the pro's or else work at McDonald's".

Sad when I see these type of salaries.

    Re: Really Bob Sanders?

I agree with Burg. When he plays he may the the best and may be the MVP of their D. I'm not sure you can pay top dollar for a guy on the field 60-70% of the time.

As for the complaints about salaries in general, save it... Its a market that generates enough to pay that much and it doesnt matter that you think its too much.

Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving.

He can use some of the money to start the Iowa Hawkeye Defense Fund for troubled athletes.

    Re: Really Bob Sanders?

I think it boils down for me...

If he is healthy he deserves it.

If he plays 75% or less then I feel that they could of spent their money on someone that is more likely to stay healthy. Heck they could get two really good players for that price to make up for all the time he misses.

Sad thing is, these guys make a ton of money, but do you see them donating any to the college that they went to?
