    Re: Proposed CIML Split

Up until the late sixties DM East was in the Big 6 with Fort Dodge, Mason City, Cedar Falls, and East and West Wateloo.
Big 6 then became Big 8 with DM East dropping and joining new Metro conference. Ames, Newton and Marshalltown joined to form Big 8, followed by the new and now defunct Waterloo Central.
Newton dropped in early 70's because they were not competetive, but a few years later they were state FB champs (go figure)

Just noticed in our school announcements that there is a meeting on Monday to discuss an invitation for Indianola to join the Little Hawkeye Conference.

I wonder how would that work - a 4A school joining a conference with 3A schools?

I'd imagine their non-conference games would be against some of the 4A schools they currently play. Sub state and regionals would still be paired with 4A schools.

Wouldn't be any different than the Racoon River was for years up until last year.
Boone was 4A playing a conference of all 3A schools.

The Little Hawkeye league (except for Pella Christian is 2A) is perfect for Indianola.

DCG and Norwalk will probably eventually be 4A anyway in a few years.
The Towns have the same feel (Newton, Osky, Pella, Grinnell etc)

If they join the league would have 8 teams for basketball for example. That would be 14 Games in league play. Then they could schedule 7 - 4A Schools to play non conference.

Football is districts so it doesn't matter.
Sports like softball seem to play like 40 games for some reason..lol so I am sure they can manage also.
