Re: McKay, Nader impressing teammates this summer

It appears we have plenty of talent. It's all going to come down to how well the team chemistry can form. Last year was amazing how quickly we played well together, especially after losing a lot of key players. Work your magic, Fred! I'm pumped.

It's not unrealistic to expect an outstanding team. With Fred's track record so far, that's the only realistic expectation.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

Haha. No need to apologize for missing Ejim and Kane. Have to admit that as much as I love Monte's game, I still worry about how much playing along side of Kane meant to his success. But a new team means new chemistry, roles, and possible different types of scoring while still successful. Eh, it will probably only take a couple weeks of games and my worries will by pleasantly squelched by Man-man.

One thing to keep in mind is that McKay and Nader have had an entire year to get acquainted with the rest of the team and Fred's system. I'm thinking chemistry won't be a problem.

Ejim and Kane both did a lot on the floor, but their leadership was even bigger. Both were great leaders.

But I think this team has some great leaders too. Monte and Hogue seem like the lead-by-example types, while Naz and Georges both are very vocal leaders.

Indeed, chemistry is crucial. Last year, we were blessed by Ejim's incredible work ethic on and off the court. During games, Kane was so good at huddling the team and giving direction. However, it wasn't just about him, but him taking a role that fit because of his age and personality. I expect that Niang and Morris will step up as team leaders this year. However, Long is also a guy who seems to see everything that is happening on the court. One of the things that goes underappreciated about a Hoiberg team is how smart the guys are and how much he lets them play the game according to the game-plan rather than looking to him constantly for every little thing. I think this contributes to their great chemistry. They trust each other to be prepared to do what they are supposed to do. Perhaps this is the best comparison that could be made to the Spurs.

It goes both ways. How much did Monte's presence help Kane? It's going to be similar with him and BDJ.

I (still) really hope Nader turns out to be at least a decent rebounder. Or Niang improves in that area. Really nice to always have 2 very good rebounders on the floor at a time, and Hogue and McKay can't play all the time.

Nader was 96th in the country in defensive rebounding at 22.1% his last year at NIU so he's certainly capable of being more than a decent rebounder.
