    Re: Trimming-Before or after mowing

I trim before I mow, don't want to get grass in my beard

You probably think I'm at a disadvantage, I promise you I'm not

You obviously have not been doing this very long.

    Re: Trimming-Before or after mowing

trim and edge, then mow. I have the long stuff sitting on the mowed grass, I use the mower to clean things up. I also trim and edge if not everytime, every other. I rent and in this neighborhood they used field rock (small round boulders) as edging around the house. I will never do this, what a pain in the tail to trim in between each rock. I have actually eliminated this problem with RoundUP, including next to my fence. I don't care what anyone says, saves me about 20 minutes of trimming and only looks bad up close IMO.

    Re: Trimming-Before or after mowing

I guess this raises another question for those of you who complain about long trimmings - how often do you trim? If you trim every week when you mow you shouldn't have to worry about long clippings looking like crap.

To me mowing is the rough work, trimming is for going back and cleaning things up to make them look nice.

    This is the correct answer.

For what it's worth, I used to mow with a commercial outfit as a summer job, and we were instructed to always, always trim before mowing. This is especially true when bagging the grass.

I trim before. I know how lazy I am, if I mowed first, the yard would never get trimmed.

So some of the guys that trim first, but only trim once a month, are suddenly concerned about how their yard looks with long clippings left behind?

This is correct. Trim and edge before you mow so your mower can chew up the longer grass clippings as you mow.

    Re: Trimming-Before or after mowing

I trim almost every time I mow around my garage, house, swing set and rock beds. I only do my chain link fence once a month cause its a pain in the ***. I trim first, then mow.

    Re: Trimming-Before or after mowing

It seems like most of the comments are in favor of trimming first, but the poll results indicate a preference for mowing first.

Why are the mow-firsters such a silent majority? And what is the merit of mowing before trimming? I can think of none.
