If you know your lawn, you know where and how far to trim. You must like raking.

Mow, then trim. Anything else is wrong.

I use to mow then trim. Now I trim and mow and won't go back.

If you have to rake after trimming then you need to trim more often.

So let me get this straight... The majority of you enjoy looking at an ugly strip of trimmed long grass blades along the edges of your house and property? Trim first. Then mow to chop up all the unsightly long clippings

    Re: Trimming-Before or after mowing

I always trim before. I know what needs trimmed and to what extent. Makes running the lawn tractor that much easier. When you trim after you are always looking for "what did I miss?" versus the before proactive approach. Just my preference of course!

I don't leave an ugly strip of trimmed long grass blades along the edge of anything.

What has this world come to when 3True is providing the much needed source of sanity in a thread? Trimming first, seriously? Bunch of commies in here.

Try this next time you tend to the lawn. It won't make any difference if you trim or mow first.

    Re: Trimming-Before or after mowing

I really thought this would be obvious to trim and then mow, but I see that a lot of you dorks do it the other way around.

I guess if you trim every time you mow it's no big deal. But if you only trim every 3-5 times then you have to trim so that your long blades of grass are mulched with the mower. Looks much better if you do that. But if you trim often then I think the trimming afterwards is probably much easier.

There is no way in hell that I'm trimming my black chain link fence once a week though. So for me it's obvious to trim first.

The best answer is to own a townhome and let someone else worry about it.

    Re: Trimming-Before or after mowing

You are all too linear thinking and your priorities (how nice it looks) are off target.

I trim while my son gets mower going and mows. If I wait until he is done, I lose a good hour of drinking time. Lawn gets mowed and trimmed, it is good enough for the wife and I maximize drinking time.

In the previous house I did landscaping with the divider that you could run the mower over and not have to trim as the son wasn't old enough to mow yet. Invested that money in this house into a grill. Suppose I have to revisit in a few years when he is off to college.

If you aren't finding some way to minimize time you spend trimming, revisit.

Trim then mow. I have the same issue with my grass and sidewalk to where edging weekly in the summer is required or it grows onto the sidewalk and you can't even tell it was edged the prior week. Sucks.
