Re: Lebron James to opt out of contract

I have trouble complaining that a pro athlete could be a mercenary. It's kind of part of the deal.

It'll all come down to winning and #s, so LeBron's legacy will be that he did that. Maybe he'll be a guy with 3-4 teams, maybe not. Nothing really wrong with it.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

The guy is going to end up (barring injury) playing 15+ years in the NBA, 3 teams doesn't seem like it would qualify as "mercenary".

    Blake Griffin - $17,674,613
    J.J. Redick - $6,792,500
    TOTAL - 44,535,676

The result of all of that is $14,098,300 in usable cap space. That is what they can use to sign LeBron.

If they wanted to keep Griffin, Paul and Jordan (get rid of Redick), they have less than $10mil in cap space to sign LeBron.
Chris Paul does not appear to be worth $20M at this point. He might have to be traded to get point forward Carmelo or point forward LeBron.

Paul and James are best friends. Paul is god father to James son, he is not going to LA if they trade paul

By bailing on Miami and going to a third team he becomes a mercenary. He can either go back home to Cleveland or he can stay in Miami and let Riley retool the roster around him. But if I was Lebron, I would make it clear to Pat Riley and Mickey Arison that there would be no more cutting key players to avoid the luxury tax like they did with Mike Miller.
It's either Chicago or Miami. James is all about winning more titles at this point in his career and Cleveland is a LONG way away from that with a history of front office failures and bad decisions that should convince James that they aren't capable of putting together the type of team needed to win it all. James on Chicago next year wins the NBA title, especially with McDermott added to the team now. Miami is going to have to work some magic with Wade and Bosh's contracts and some additional signings to have a better pitch than what Chicago is selling at this point. I'd put Miami as the slight favorite right now because Riley has shown he knows how to do what's needed but Chicago is very much in it. If Bosh and Wade don't play ball with their contracts I could see James bailing for Chicago.

Dwayne Wade just informed the Heat that he will also be opting out. Udonis as well.

    Bosh is as well.

I wonder how low those guys are willing to go. I personally think it is by far a better idea to let Wade go and go attract another guy for his spot than to bring him back. He looks absolutely washed up.

Wade has been in Miami since the beginning no way they ditch him. I agree though he is getting old

They need to replace him with some youth. LeBron is not as energetic either.

Yep...Im fully expecting all 3 to resign, as well as Haslem to resign for less, and the Heat to get a good guard, such as Kyle Lowry.

Welp - the big 3 are back in Miami. Guess its more like the Big 2 and a crippled Wade. I fully expect them to take deals less than 15 mil per year. Then go after Bron or Lowry.

There is 0% chance Lebron doesn't resign with the Heat. Pat Riley will discuss every transaction the team wants to make with Lebron.
