    Would You Help a Hawkeye??

An example of the ultimate holiday spirit:

Driving from the Twin Cities to NW Iowa, an SUV with Hawkeye plates and bumper stickers that blew by me on slick roads. Moments after I said to my wife that the driver was asking for trouble, I saw the SUV airborne, and it rolled 4 times.

Me (obviously a big Cyclone fan) and another guy in a Cyclone hat helped get the young lady Hawk out of her vehicle and to safety. I commented to the other Cyclone samaritan about the irony, and the lady overheard and expressed her thanks for us helping out a Hawkeye.

It's a good reminder of how silly any allegiances (sports, politics, etc.) are when someone needs help.

Yeah, you have to help, we all have to step back once and a while and realize we are all really on the same team. Some of my closest friends are hawks, it is fun to razz them, but I find myself wanting the hawks to win sometimes just so they will be happy. Then I realize what I just thought and punch myself in the head for thinking it.

Absolutely I would. My fiance and her family are Hawkeyes. We all make poor life choices at some point.

Re: Would You Help a Hawkeye??

Yeah - you have to help in that situation. I don't really get too hung up on the sports allegiances

However, given your description of "blowing by you" and the other discussion this morning of how some people drive in bad conditions, had it simply been a "got stuck" moment - I'd have been tempted to leave her.

Given that she rolled and might have been in real peril, you certainly did the right thing and good for you in doing such.

Of course, you can not put a silly sports team infront of helping out another human that may be in real danger.

I was tailgating at Arrowhead one year for a Chiefs game and we left the car radio on and it killed the battery. I had to ask a Jay Hawk fan for a jump, he say my ISU plates and razzed me, but he helped me out.

Re: Would You Help a Hawkeye??

My thread title was a bit facetious, because anyone who was near this accident would have helped...it was nasty. But there was some sweet irony there.

I meant to ask the fellow Cyclone if he was a CFer, but it was well below zero with the wind chill, and I had jumped out of my car with no coat, hat or mittens, so I had to go get warm!

The fact that we're even discussing what should be so brutally obvious is sad.

Mere mortal. After saving the damsel's life there is no reason that Cyclone athletics should not be discussed.

Question: Do I have to touch them while I help them?

Kidding, I would help her out and make sure she was all right. Then I'd push her down the hill and drive off.

you may get to do the good deed yourself before too long as another poster from said thread basically wished me into the ditch. i have isu plates so that may make it easier for some of the heartless people on here to help me out though...

It would be a little like shopping at Wal-Mart. Sure we all would do it, we just wouldn't tell anyone and we hope that no one we knew saw us doing it.
