This is not good news for ISU. He puts on 15 more pounds...has a solid year at the NC school proving he can play 11 man (traditional football)...and he'll be gone.

Or, he will be more ready and therefore more effective when he gets to ISU. Stop being so negative.

That's the most pessimistic view on this that you could possibly have. Congrats.

ISU and Nerness both knew about the transfer before the commitment. I'm sure Nerness is aware more offers are going to come.

He may decide he really misses Iowa and will come back even if Alabama offers him. Or he could decide the other way. Who knows.

Good, his transition to Big 12 football will be a lot less dramatic this way.

Why North Carolina, what's wrong with Dowling or xavier?

    1. The school he's at in NC is much better than any school in Iowa for football.

    2. His uncle is a coach at that school in NC (not football - wrestling), so I am assuming he has a place to live there for the next year. Not necessarily the case in Des Moines or Cedar Rapids.

I am not sure but Southlake Christian doesn't sound like a Catholic school. That might be part of the reason he is not going to Dowling or Xavier. This school sounds like more of a football power than DM Christian or Grandview Park Baptist.

Actually it is good news. He is prepping himself at an 11-man school where his uncle coaches. The competition is outstanding. And he is doing this for both athletic and religious reasons. Kudos to the young man. Sounds like he is a fine young man. He will honor his commitment.

It's just news. It's too early tell whether it's good or bad for ISU.

    Re: New commit: Seth Nerness.

I don't see the problem. He goes to North Carolina, learns a lot, gets bigger, his recruiting blows up--and we have another four star in the signing class. So, what's not to like?

Is he still expected to enroll in January?

If he was uncommitted, it would make more sense. Personally, I think he is using us as a placeholder if this deal down in NC doesn't work out how he expects it to.

In all fairness, you can't blame the kid for wanting to play at a higher level, and for him, this is probably the best way to go about it. Commit to the school that feels the best at this time, and realize you have until February to make a final decision.

If he does change his mind, he won't be the first to change commitments. Iowa St. has been on both ends of decisions like this in the past.

    Re: New commit: Seth Nerness.

Wow. I'd heard rumors a few months ago that he was considering transferring to one of the CIML schools (Valley was a popular pick), but figured once that never came to pass that he was staying put. Great for him, but that pretty much kills any chance Murray has to be competitive. He was going to have to carry that team this year.

He is going to ISU. Since he is staying home for college he and his folks decided that he would do this year so at least he can experience a year elsewhere some time. That was the only downside to his ISU commitment and so he decided to do this when he decided to commit to IsU as a have your cake and eat it to move. Nothing more. Kid took his time to make sure and then made a commitment. Of all our current commits he is the one I am least worried about flipping and I am not worried about anyone.
