I think people forget about the gauntlet that we have to go through every year. CPR has given this team the belief that they can beat anyone on any given Sunday. Does that give him a free pass, no but it certainly should get him some respect. I just don't see anyone being able to come here and do that much better than CPR.

I just think it's funny people want to get rid of a coach who had the best first five years in school history, against the hardest schedules in school history on top of that. Hell when Mangino was in Kansas he didn't play schedules this hard either.

The more hard games you play, the less likely you are to win. It's kind of common sense.

If Fred misses the tournament once are people going to call for his head too?

Sadly, probably yes. It won't be founded, but I have no doubt that some on here will.

That's kinda deceiving, since his best years were his first two - with players he inherited mainly from Mac and some from Chizik. The trend is downward since then.

So his 5-7 season in 2010 was better than his 6-6 seasons in 2011 and 2012, despite a tougher schedule in 2011 and 2012 How's that work? Or is it more just because it actually disproves your point about mainly being successful with recruits that were Mac's?

Well, that big Texas win that everyone still talks about came in 2010; Austen Arnaud - by far CPR's best QB (and a Mac recruit) last played in 2010 - we lost to #9 Neb 31-30 in 2010 - yeah, those first two teams were CPR's best.
Surely you can't bring up the 2012 team can you? You know, the team that went to Memphis and got pounded by Tulsa, and played like they didn't even want to be there? I was there, I watched it...

Oh, are you talking about the Tulsa bowl game we played in? The bowl game we didn't qualify for with a 5-7 record in 2010?

We won three conference games both years - our wins in 2010 (and the close loss to #9 Neb) were more impressive.
Let's distill this a little: last year was the first year that the roster was made up of all CPR's recruits. Usually, coaches (and fans) look forward to that. We go 3-9, including a loss at home to UNI. Please.

No, you're right. It's not just Tornado Man's Mac obsessed world that 5-7 with no bowl game is better than 6-6 with a bowl game. Go ahead and ask anyone what's better 5-7 or 6-6. I'm sure they'll all agree 5-7 is a better season than 6-6.

Sweet almost win against Nebraska too!

The offense was also in better shape under Herman than it was Messingham. Mess was CPR's mistake, and now he's fixed it by hiring someone a lot better than Herman.

I agree - and I'm excited about Mangino as well. This is a big year coming off last.
I've increased my Cyclone Club giving since CPR was hired. I've joined the Gridiron Club since CPR was hired. This is a tough job no matter who is the coach here. Just wondering if we're building something here or not.

Where did I ever say osu was included? So much fail in this whole post.

Is Jim Criner still alive...I feel he was on the cusp of success back in the early mid eighties... (yes, I just threw up a little in my mouth.)

I think it's an interesting question. Not saying I want Rhoads to go anywhere, but every AD has a "list". You never know when health problems, resignation, termination, hired elsewhere, etc. may come out of nowhere.

As for who's on the list, I'd say that there is a combination of people that are at lower tier schools, ones with energy to further excite our fan base, young, enthusiastic, with proven recruiting success. I don't see us bringing in a person that has been around (Kiffen, etc.), though. I can't say I have any names to throw out (I know, great help, right?) but I think it's more of a type of coach, as opposed to the name of the coach, IMO.
