The uniform on Jeff Woody when he fell across the goal line that one night in Ames is good enough to last a century.

This whole thing is like baseball uniforms in the 70s and 80s--same stupid reasoning and justification and same ugly result. I almost prefer the MLB for having some reverence for traditional looks and feels over most college programs and a lot of the NFL nowadays for how they do things.
What do we gain by wearing the same uniforms that make a small fanbase feel nostalgic about beating Oklahoma State in 2011?

I want whatever gets us better recruits and more attention, which seems to be the opposite of what we're doing.

    Re: New Uniforms?

There are very few programs that have a "look" that is easily recognizable - Texas, Penn State, USC. You could maybe even put the Iowa Hawkeyes in that boat. They tried that scruffy, homeless-looking herky logo and it died.

Just about everyone else messes with their uniforms. Consistent uniforms don't exemplify a brand or identify anymore. What they mean now is boring, stale, and predictable.

I say change it up. Get four or five combinations. Update the look every few years. Why not?

We would only take orders from Nike on a one-time edition kind of thing. Oregon gets all kinds of uniforms to pick from, so we would have a main uniform, and get bank for showing off Nike's new ideas here and there.

the one consistent i liked from both throw backs is actual gold vs mustard yellow. i'm in favor of doing anything that moves us closer to the 49ers in color usage. getting a wacky look many are looking for will still put us on the ugly lists of college football without first updating the actual colors used.

lastly, NO to throwbacks as permanent, its 2014 and start using some imagination. besides, we don't want to look like the hawks of the 90s with the banana peels on the shoulder pads. unfortunately, many posters dig this ugly sh9t...
Agree. Pick a Jack Trice game and wear the throw backs once a season. Update our current uni's to fit the times with more of a retro look and by all means use our original gold. Pretty sure the 49ers got their gold from seeing our uni's years ago when we played Stanford or somebody out there.

    From our story last November:

"This appears to be a 1961 game at Boston College, which the Cyclone team narrowly lost 14 – 10. Ohio State coaching legend John Cooper was the captain of the ISU squad. Just two years later, the ISU team travelled westward for the opening game of the 1963 season against California. The following year, the San Francisco 49ers introduced new cardinal and gold uniforms supposedly inspired by the ISU team."

EDIT: I should also note that I would be dubious of claims that we had an "original gold" as it appears Ames/Iowa State College teams were using a yellowish gold before we ever used a "real gold" color. We will have some more research later this year about this point.

I think it's obvious CW has some hidden deal with some of the players to make vague uniform comments to the media to drive site traffic.

My favorite, too. Current design was obviously a nod toward that one. If they had duplicated everything about it except the helmet logo (using I-State) and the updated jersey number typeface, it'd be perfect.

    Amen & AMEN!!

We tried about as much to change the USC uni as Iowa did the Steelers. If we are going to use their colors at least mix up the design more than 1 strip vs 2 strips on the jersey.

It's time to have our own identity (and then change it in a couple of years!)

    Re: New Uniforms?

I think it would be cool for ISU to start wearing more unique uniforms. There is very little tradition with the ISU football program. It's well known that kids today want to be in "cool" uniforms. Why not scrap the norm and start wearing cutting edge uniforms like Oregon and several other schools do? I really don't see the downside.

Personally, I think ISU could make some pretty sweet looking black uniforms. The Cyclone mascot could really inspire some creative designs.
