Re: Game of Thrones Season 4 - Thread Attempt #2

BTW, I have read the books also. The thing I love about the series is that it deviates enough to keep me on edge. I remember watching the Tyrion monologue when he was on trial and being genuinely engrossed enough that I forgot he asked for a trial-by-combat. I was honestly like "Oh, shoot. Didn't see that coming." That is equal parts 1) me being forgetful, and 2) Dinklage being as awesome as he wants to be.

But if Littlefinger and Lysa were already married then doesn't Littlefinger currently have, like, parental control or something? If Robyn dies then wouldn't Littlefinger be the natural ruler? I'm really not sure. It just seems like Petyr has set the ball in motion for he and Sansa to get together. Maybe Robyn and Sansa don't get married, Robyn dies and Sansa and Littlefinger get married anyway. That way they aren't like step-daughter marrying step-father (even though they aren't related). It would be fishy if Littlefinger and Lysa were married (Lysa dies), Sansa and Robyn get married (Robyn dies), then Littlefinger and Sansa marry.

No. Littlefinger doesn't have any claim to the throne of the Eyrie, just like Lysa didn't either. Lysa's power came from her relationship to her husband and then son. It goes entirely by bloodline, and neither Lysa or Littlefinger have\had it. Jon passed it to Robert (Robyn), and if he dies it will go to someone else with Arryn blood. The book discusses who this could potentially be, but the show has not as yet.

Okay, I have not read the books. But it seems to me that Littlefinger wants to rule, but he doesn't want to until he is the last man standing. So why not keep Robyn alive use him to be the one people try to kill. Use Sansa to get Robyn to do what he wants.

But I am not so sure Sansa doesn't have a plan of her own. It seemed like it finally clicked and Sansa now knows if he wants to live, she better play the game. And the first chess piece she acquired was Littlefinger, but that doesn't mean she won't trade him in at some point.

He can't be the ruler, but he can rule (through Sansa and Robyn).

I'm not loving that Pyp and Grenn died in this week's episode. As far as I remember, that didn't happen in the book - they were likable characters, and they represented people who were actually there to help Jon up on the wall. Now there's not many left.

Yeah, that was tough to see, and Pyp's death in particular was surprising to me.

I think Grenn essentially took the place of Noye (?) the Castle Black blacksmith who was a bit of a mentor for Jon Snow in the books. He's the one that died defending the gate against the giant in the books during the attack, but I don't think he's ever been shown in the TV show.

I really wish they would make 12-14 episodes a season. 10 feels like it rushs the story a lot and it's hard to invest in all the various characters.

Can't wait for next week. Lots of story lines to wrap up. It's getting billed as possibly the best episode yet. Also, it will run 66 minutes.

We were talking about exactly that - yep, Grenn replaced Donal. I was always a little sad Donal didn't make it into the show, he was a really interesting character. As soon as the giant came in, I pretty well knew Grenn wasn't gonna make it.

I was unprepared for Pyp's death. They're not playing by the rules! I'm supposed to know this stuff before hand. That's a perk I've earned by reading 4000 pages of food descriptions, random wanderings through a forest and the internal dialogue of a 16 year old girl.

Robyn and Sansa are first cousins. Do non-Targs go there?
