I will really miss Ygritte. She was nice.
I feel like it was the culmination of the two years of plot in the north, and was the biggest movement in that story by far. Everyone in the far North converged on the Wall for an epic battle that ended with several significant characters dead. But to each his own of course.

The cliffhanger caught me by surprise, I thought it would go on for another 10 minutes! I guess the final is longer than normal.

Yeah but nothing was really finished. I guess I also wouldn't say several significant people are deal. I was hoping Ygritte would live but does anyone else's death last night change anything? Did we think John wasn't going to be in command at some point anyway? I guess I was just not surprised by anything and with an episode 9, I expect to be surprised. Again, I didn't say I didn't like the episode. I thought there was a lot of coll stuff and the battle was good TV but it just didn't do what I expected. I expect the finale to be awesome though.

Agree. The last couple of episodes previous to this are both ones I rewatched during the week. This was okay but nothing I'll watch again this week. These are the weak link actors and characters, nothing that compels me to say or post how awesome this #9 was because by GoT thresholds this was just pedestrian.

With that said, BRING ON EPISODE 10!

If you think that then I can see how we disagree on this episode.

SIAP, but the Season 4 finale will be 66 minutes next week, I think.

Peter Dinklage kind of casts a long shadow.

Any episode that can actually make me like Alliser Thorne a little is pretty good.

Maybe you can convince me but who was killed off that wasn't just a small piece? I mean, Ygritte was probably the most important, yet her arc was coming to an end one way or another. I guess they could have taken the castle and she could have come into power but I didn't think that was plausible. The rest were all just pieces IMO.

So, key characters have to die in an episode for it to be good or important?

No......but I expected something unexpected, especially in the 9th episode. It pretty much just went as planned with some cool action, that's all. You act as if I have said the whole season or show sucked when all I said is that I was expecting more than an hour long fight that settles nothing in terms of where things are going at Castle Black.

Re: Game of Thrones Season 4 - Thread Attempt #2

I really thought Ygritte would end up killing the Magnar of Thenn because she had already said she had an arrow for anyone who tried to kill Snow. Plus, it is clear she didn't like the Magnar. Ygritte shoots Magnar in the back, Snow looks over to see his ginger lover save the day, only to watch her catch that arrow in the chest. Would have been very powerful. I hate to see her go.

Also, I think Littlefinger will make sure Robin and Sansa marry quickly, making Sansa the Lady of the Vale. He will then send Robin off to meet the people of the Vale where Robin will meet an unfortunate death. With Sansa the Lady of the Vale and recently widowed, Littlefinger will quickly marry her and become Lord. I think they will both fall in love with each other and live happily ever after.

As someone that read the books, I knew Ygritte was going to get it. But I agree that when she spotted Jon, and the Thenn had him on the ropes, I thought for sure Ygritte was going to take out the Thenn to save Jon, then perish herself. Particularly after the fight around the campfire before the attack between her and the brute.

Her hesitating on Jon was equally as poignant, but I also like your version better. A more noble death for her.

BTW - Book version was slightly different than either of these.

I feel like the show needed Jon to actually kill somebody after a long sword fight... before, the Watch mutineer would have won in the end if one of Craster's wives/daughters didn't kill him. Can't have him saved by a woman every time! Also, I liked that John learned from that fight, this time he was the one spitting blood into his opponents face to get the advantage.

I'm no expert on laws of inheritance, but I believe if Sansa and Robyn marry, and Robyn dies before Robyn fathers a male heir, then you go back up the line to someone else in the Arryn family, not just keep Sansa in charge of the Vale. So there's no real way for Littlefinger to become Lord of the Vale.
