    Re: Memorial weekend-what to do?

Wedding Saturday. Luckily, for me, weddings are basically an excuse to have a few too many adult beverages & dance like a fool.

Hoping for good weather to do some grilling & what not Sunday/Monday, but looks like there might be rain in the forecast. Boo

Really should clean and organize my garage. Probably won't, but I should.

    I say that every weekend.

They say country music speaks to the heart. Unfortunately, it has to go through your ears to get there.

    Re: Memorial weekend-what to do?

Belated birthday dinner for the husband on Friday, probably Bratfest on Saturday, watching the Coke 600 Sunday, and maybe running a Memorial 5k on Monday for a local person killed by a drunk driver a couple years ago.

Reading a couple of the comments here........I'd have to think that for those who died serving our country - enjoying time outdoors, grilling, spending time with family and friends (whether for graduations, get-togethers, whatever) is just about exactly how they would have liked to spend the weekend as well.

Hiking, mountain biking, and probably going down to the 9/11 memorial.

If my apartment would let me have a grill that would definitely be on the list as well.

    No.

But as a vet myself, I learned a long time ago that the general American population does not know or care to know much about what our servicemen and women do on a daily basis to protect our great country.

    Want to test my theory?

Ask people you meet this weekend who America fought in its last war, when did it end and how many American military personal died in that conflict.

    Here are the answers.
Afghanistan/Taliban. You know. The people behind September 11th 2001 attacks.
We are still engaged in the war. It has not ended yet.
US causalities in this war. 2,229 dead. 18,675 wounded.

As a follow up, the Taliban spring offensive is underway and those numbers will be increasing as we are enjoying our families and friends this weekend.

Enjoy your 3 day weekend. There are Americans fighting and dieing TODAY so you can enjoy it.

Memorial Service and band concert at the WWII Memorial in Des Moines, just east of the Capitol. Monday 1:00 PM. A few speeches and a few patriotic musical numbers, taps and a gun salute. Yours truly in the band.

Going to visit my grandfathers' gravesites to honor them and then family time. Grilling, yard games, and other fun activities.

Memorial Day doesn't have to be a somber occasion just because of what it reflects. Celebrate the lives' of those that served and sacrificed for this country. Don't sit and preach numbers or quiz the general public. They know what the holiday is and they celebrate it in their own way. You do what you want.

25th ranked teams get beat down on the road all the time against top 10 teams. Sucks that it happened but it doesn't change that we are somewhere between the 2nd and 6th best team in the conference. -PCHawk

Normally I'd be out in Boulder, CO running the Bolder Boulder. This year wedding planning/spending has gotten in the way of that. Thinking about taking a trip up to Decorah to TG to bring home some tasty treats to enjoy. As far as Memorial Day celebrations/tributes go, the Bolder Boulder puts on one of the best I've ever seen.
