    Re: Friday OT - Hero?

I have performed CPR on multiple occasions to varying outcomes. Saved a 2 year old kid that suffered a traumatic injury that caused his heart to stop.

Also, I have pulled an old man out of a burning building. He was in his 90s and wasn't able to move very well and was trying to evacuate the building.

Those are the two that I remember, but being a Firefighter/EMT I help people every day. Just not to a heroic status.

Sam Rockwell does a really great job with the lead, he's definitely an antihero.

I don't know if I've done anything all that heroic. I did finish the first two Fables and all three Mass Effects as a paragon...

I don't even know what this means. Are those games good? I'm currently playing Skyrim.

I cant decide whether or not I should eat around you. Choking seems to follow you around. =)

Seriously though, thats awesome that you were there. Thats pretty heroic **** in my eyes. Lots of people freeze in those situations.
Yeah my wife says the same thing and I actually agree.

    Re: Friday OT - Hero?

I'm trying to think of a time where I've been a hero or had someone be a hero for me and not much is coming to mind. I tend to stay very calm in high-stress situations and had to drive my mom to the hospital after she broke her shoulder. The rest of my family is like WHAT DO WE DO?! And I just started doling out "you do this, you do that" and it seemed to break them out of that "freeze". I've probably been a hero to some cows and kittens over the years :)

My brother though, did something that I would consider heroic. He, brother #2, and a friend were four-wheeling several years ago when brother #2 hit a ditch and flipped his several times. He then got up and tried to walk around with a pretty obvious head wound (was completely in shock). Brother #1 got him back down to the ground, used his shirt to wrap up #2's head, and told the friend to sit on him and keep him from moving. #1 then ran about 1/3 mile straight uphill to try to calmly tell my parents to call 911. Then they freaked out, but I think for a teenager, he did a great job of taking control of the situation and preventing our brother from further injuring himself.

On a different level. I think a person's kids make you feel heroic. How many times do you stop them from head diving off the couch or banging their head on things....or whatever. Parents can be heroic just for being a good parent.

I have pulled pigs and cleared their throats so they could breath. Does that count?

Yeah, that's pretty well the only true claims I've got. And even then, I fail sometimes in preventing pain!

I think there's a fine line between preventing something and they have to learn. I confess that it was hard not to laugh when she bopped her head on the table because she was looking for her toy that fell on the ground.

I agree. I found that learning from the little bumps tends to make them more careful...thus avoiding some of the bigger bumps.

Kids have a way of making you feel like a hero all the time, particularly when they are younger.
