Is dropping a ton of money on a brand new shiny sports car a good investment? Probably not, but it will probably get you a lot more tail and some street cred among your peers.

I think spending $60+ million on the new upgrades and then have the stadium be 1/3 empty consistently in the future would be a pretty big deal.

If ADs really looked at 10 years of data, Kinnick would not have expanded in 1983. Even though Fry had them heading places, they hadn't had a winning season prior to 1980 and nearly set a record for being ****-poor through that decade. What did they do in 1983? Enclosed the North endzone.

Same with KSU renovating in 1993.

That place is going to look real empty, when it's -5 degrees and we're 2-8

That would be a big deal but do you really think anything could happen now that would get us back to 80s and 90s #s? The enrollment, local demographics and change in college football parity from the 80s and early 90s alone would prevent it.

Don't they typically 'sell out' by tickets actually sold? Like, two years ago when half the stadium was Nebraska fans, wasn't that a sell out?

Or whenmost their amazing fanbase left during Senior Day when they were getting routed by a directional school a few years ago, it was probably technically a 'sell out'. But, their fanbase is just as bandwagon-filled as the rest.

I do think that winning will have to happen to make the upgrades make sense...but it's not like the upgrade is to 80,000 capacity or something. The number is still reasonable and achievable...and winning makes it more so.

If you were an investor, where would you put your money based only on the 10-year "trend-line?" Where demand has steadily increased (and scalpers have made a fortune on sold our games)? Or where demand has declined and no game has sold out recently and cheap tickets are available from scalpers for all games (with the only likely exception being the upcoming game with the other team)?

I don't know how to really gauge if this is good or bad, but many of my Tavern Hok fb friends (you know the type...never stepped foot in a classroom in Iowa City) (also, many UNI grads and UNI bball seems to be irrelevant again) were actually wearing Cyclone gear during the NCAA bball tourney. Hoiball is addictive and can even penetrate the thick skulls of Hoks I guess. I know come FB season I'll see their knuckle-dragging, mouth breathing posts as usual...calling for Captain Kirk's head in the first half of the game, then talking about no beer in Heaven....posting photos of themselves in their faded Tim Dwight jersey....you know the routine...as they go out of there way to call us Clowns creatively.

I have no idea, we're not exactly a football powerhouse, if a string of 2 to 4 win seasons comes down the pipe how will the fan base respond?

Yeah, and I'm sure JP, if needed, could just sell more student tickets as they are a hot commodity.

    Consistent losing would do it.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

I honestly believe if the next two seasons tank, as I said in my post, Paul Rhoads will be fired. You can't have 3 horrible seasons in a row and keep your job. I think if this season sucks then the fan base will start to get worked up, and if it is followed by another horrible season then it will be time for him to go.
In which we promote Mangino to HC. Problem solved.

    exactly

We need to get an additional 4-6k people in the stadium to sell out, 2-3k also need to upgrade from a hill to a real seat. My #s could be off but ballpark. This is not some crazy task. If the old stadium sold out for Sept/Oct games, the new one likely will too. Nov is a different story but will always be for any cold weather school that's not a dynasty selling almost the entire stadium to season ticket holders.
