We are basically one of the top 10 worst BCS football programs of all time, yet we draw in tons of fans. I do not buy the need to win theory.

That makes sense. I wondered where that came from.
I don't think it would have to be worse. Those years were bad enough.

I think that makes this season very crucial. Just look at the lack of response we have to football threads here right now. The only thing generating consistent posts/excitement is this endzone project. Otherwise, football threads just quietly sit there until they fade away.

No matter what, the stadium will be sold out to open up the new endzone. If we're losing, though, it won't last long. Still, we have to build it. The $ is here, people want it, and we can't be left behind. It's an awfully good facility they're putting together.

    The Chicago Cubs disagree.

Pick apart the comparison all you want, by my point is that people attend sporting events for a variety of reasons, and often times they're unrelated to whether the team stinks.

I think we're still riding the coat tails of the Paul Rhoads hype train a little bit. I think you can only sell people on the future for so long though.

Finite seating capacity has never been the ďbe all, end allĒ for the SEZ. We have had post after post debating the demand, supply, need aspect of the seating and I actually donít see it as relevant for the minor gain and itís just not the driving force behind this. This is about the image, presentation, game day experience and gateway to the university matching what a Big 12 school needs to have for the program and the university as a whole.

I'm a Cubs fan, and at least these numbers disagree:
    http://www.baseball-almanac.com/teams/cubsatte.shtml

Our attendance tends to be near or below the league average unless we're winning, and then we explode.

3True is right that we're still riding the hype train a little bit. Never underestimate the relationship between winning and attendance.
As for the tailgating argument that's out there, people will do that without buying tickets. They aren't necessarily related.

Have you looked at attendance at wrigley it's hilarious. They're selling tickets for like 3 dollars online.

Dude, if you build it, they will come... The value it adds with the new score board, and helping to keep the noise in the stadium is worth it even if one more seat isnt sold.

    Great decision.

    Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
    'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town'

If the program ever erodes to resemble the early 90's then ISU fans should tear down JTS in a Busch Light fueled rage

I'm sure pictures will emerge of the brand new addition sitting empty if the Clones only have 1 or 2 wins towards the end of the season.

"Whoa nice addition... why's it empty?"

Are these being sold by the Cubs Ticket Office? Or a reseller? How much money did the Cubs already make on selling this ticket? What would it cost to get that seat in a season ticket? Do you really think the Cubs will have trouble selling tickets next year? For Cubs fans, there is always "Next Year!"
