Unless it has changed, you cannot lawfully carry ammunition in anything other than its original box/container (meaning you can't have it in a clip/magazine). It must also be kept separate from your firearm. Finally, your firearm must be in a locked container.

Your permit to carry circumvents these restrictions. If I am headed to the range, I will have my magazines loaded. Without my permit, I would not be allow to travel that way.

Its perfectly legal, what is so scarey about it ? A long gun like a shotgun is MUCH safer than a handgun any day of the week. Do you own any guns or like to hunt ? I guess I'm just confused on why you think its so scarey.

Never heard that one. I know you can't have the weapon loaded (not just unchambered)

But I often have shells in my vest or a bag.

I will admit, I could be wrong about that. However, it doesn't matter since I have my permit to carry.

Edit: For a carry gun I would look at a Springfield XDM or XDS , very good following with these guns. I always said I would rather get a .40 rather than a 9mm because a .40 or .45 you can choose to take deer hunting during gun season.
The XDM is a great handgun. Highly recommend. However, my own personal preference for carrying is a handgun with an external hammer instead of just a striker pin. You can put one in the chamber and de-**** the hammer. Carrying a cocked pistol close to my body (regardless of the many safety mechanisms) makes me nervous. Just my personal preference.

Do you carry a 1911 Style handgun? Curious as I was looking at getting one, awesome looking firearms especially some of the higher end springfields.

You can have shells in your hunting vest right? I assume this refers to other than on your person?

    From the current hunting regulations:
    Transporting Firearms

have or carry a gun in or on a vehicle on a public

Looks like just the firearm itself would need to be unloaded. The published regulations say nothing about the magazines being unloaded (except where they are attached (like a shotgun)).

I have no problem with someone carrying a gun. I just don't see the need to show the world you have one on you.

Basic firearm safety, as I was taught it, was that you only have a loaded gun when you are going to use it. As I've stated in the cave many times, I have no problem with people carrying guns safely. I have problems with stupid people carrying guns, because 1) there are a lot of stupid people out there and 2) they are likely going to do stupid **** like leaving a loaded shotgun in their truck and someone is going to get hurt.

Me too! I'm always finding it laying on my desk at school! I have left it on the counter at Post Office, on the sink at the day care and under the kneeler at church. It once bounced under the stall in a public toilet and over the rail at a Cardinals game. It's a great way to meet new friends!

It seems to me that every gun accident story begins the same way: "I didn't think it was loaded..."

Who knows when a kid or someone else will get in your truck and assume that the gun isn't loaded. Just because you know it's loaded doesn't mean everyone else (who may not be as experienced with firearms as you are) will.

I typically don't carry. Personally, I don't feel comfortable and don't see the need. If I lived somewhere else, perhaps I would feel differently.

As for 1911 pistols... I LOVE their look. I think anyone who like to collect guns needs to have one. My personal favorite, however, is a Beretta 92FS. I love to shoot it and I think it looks badass.
