    Re: Auto Dealer Hail Insurance

I've bought from them before. They offered my $1k better deal then the local Mazda dealer without physically seeing my trade in.

I'm willing to drive 120 miles for 1k

The dealership will have a "hail sale " and discount the cars a fraction of what they get back from the insurance company. The dealership will do very well with hail damaged cars.

They have room on the hill for about 4500 pickups if I remember correctly.

This. Have a friend who works at a big dealership and they love hail storms. Sell the cars for less and make enough from insurance to profit.

    Re: Auto Dealer Hail Insurance

Some of the worst damage hit the Woodhouse car dealership. On its facebook page Monday night Woodhouse said it had more than 4,500 vehicles damaged at its Blair and Missouri Valley dealerships. The dealer estimated the damage at more than $152 million, even joking that a hail sale was imminent.

Their total inventory is likely worth $152 million. The figures I saw estimated $10 million in damage.

    Re: Auto Dealer Hail Insurance

I've been wanting to buy a used pickup that I can use for hauling stuff. This might just be the ticket to getting a pretty good deal on a beater.

I have a brother in law who bought a brand new ford pickup after a hail storm and got one heck of a deal.

How much is a new F-150? How about F-250? Somebody said they have room for 4500 pickups. 3,040 $50,000 pickups would be 152 million, so I doubt that's their entire inventory.

Their entire inventory isn't pickups, and they don't have 4,500 pickups on the lot. According to their website 4,500 vehicles were damaged.

Also according to their website completely bare bones stock work truck F-150 is worth ~ $25,000 and their most expensive model is $58,000. A base model F250 starts at $32,000 and goes up to $63,000. A base model F350 starts at $37,000 and goes up to $68,000.

They also sell used cars as well as new. So there are going to be some pickups that are worth nearly $70,000 but there are also going to be a lot of cars that are worth 15 to 20k that will even out the distribution. It doesn't seem at all unrealistic to me that $152 million is their whole inventory.

    Re: Auto Dealer Hail Insurance

Unrelated, but seeing some of the prices on these pickups reminds me of when I was writing loan processing software for a bank. After we launched the system we would watch the applications roll through and it was mind boggling what some people will apply for. 500 credit score, no collateral, low income, next to no down payment? I absolutely need a $60,000 pickup! Also, please run that out for 84 months. Do you offer longer term payment plans?
