Good article on where the football players are.

Good article on where the football players are. (duh.) It always seems to me that ISU doesn't have a strong sales and marketing program when it comes to recruiting. Seems we could hire a third party consultant who knows the NCAA recruiting rules- ask them to hire a couple of sales people in each of Texas, California, Florida, give em a car and pay them 100% on commissions.

Surprised to see Wisconsin and Minnesota so far down on the list. Definitely an interesting read.

It is definitely an advantage to have only one FBS school in the state so there is less divvying up of the talent - of course every state will lose some talent out of state.

I have wondered why we don't recruit Atlanta Metro harder than we do? Direct Delta flight from ATL to DSM, 1.5 hour flight, 2.5-3 hours to Ames. Less than a drive to Chicago and parents can see their kids play that way too. No direct flights from DSM to Florida.

Check out this sweet interactive tool that shows where recruits come from for each school...

First you gotta hire a top notch salesperson who LIVES in TX,CA,FL-- Give em a list of eligible 3 stars and tell em you'll pay him $ for every player that gives ISU a phone call, then pay him $$ for every man that shows up in Ames. --Up to CPR to do the closing.

Are the numbers in this article even correct? It claims that in the past six years-- TOTAL!!-- the bottom ten states have produced just 9 FBS recruits. Iowa is listed as one of those states. Don't we usually have at least five FBS signees every year just in Iowa alone?

"I don't care if you're black or white. I don't care if you're rich or poor. I don't care where come from whether it's Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the State of Iowa, I don't care about any of that. But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on that we were one team. That we were unified and we were one team. And you have bought into it hook, line, and sinker and for that men, I am SO PROUD!"

Re: Good article on where the football players are.

Here is a good follow-up article on demographics of NFL draft picks. Two big take-aways from the article:

    1. This year, 41.4% of players taken in the draft played high school football in either Florida, California, or Texas.
    2. The Big12 did not have a lot of talent taken in the draft. We were right in there with the Mountain West Conference.

He's referring to the bottom ten states that he had to leave off the graph in order to keep the labels legible. Iowa is above that line.
