It's actually an old general question to test psychopathic tendencies. Though it's more effective when you do it in person to gauge the response.

Are you thinking "The Box" with Cameron Diaz?

yeah I would hope he checked with the bride as well. As the bride, I might look twice at nice shorts but it wouldn't be a "can you believe that guy" type of thing. Unless they were jorts!

I just wouldn't ever let DH wear shorts to a wedding. Sounds like you have the right approvals though, so you're probably fine.

I remember a wedding I attended where someone wore jorts and a sleeveless shirt. (I believe he was the SO of a bridesmaid, so perhaps he was "dragged" to this, but c'mon!)

The most recent wedding I went to was out in rural western Nebraska. (Sargent) They got married at the town gathering hall, which was also where the buffet reception was held. You could tell there were some farmers/ranchers that brought their "best suit" out of moth balls for this, and I was fine with that. It was the teenage girl with the black concert shirt and denim cutoffs I rolled my eyes at.

Finally, you have to consider that the political climate in Europe was terrible with or without Hitler. Maybe some other leader rallies Germany. Likely without a mass genocide, but war may have occurred either way. Then there's Stalin. Before Hitler pulled a major **** up and decided to double cross Stalin, Russia was part of the Axis powers. The Nazis ended up being a nice buffer between Stalin and the rest of Europe. Hitlers ill fated attempts to attack Russia during winter took massive tolls in manpower and resources from both the Nazis and the Russians. Without Germany as a buffer the US and its allies may have been trying to fight the Russian juggernaut and Japan. Who knows what the outcome would have been in that fight.
It was only a question of who would double cross who first. If you believe some accounts Stalin was shocked that the guy he was going to double cross indeed double crossed him first.

And in keeping with the theme here , here's a related but random thought: My dad's biggest fear in 1945 was that he was going to remain in Europe fighting the Russians rather than getting to go home. He wanted nothing to do with fighting Russians. The ones they ran cross were hardened scary SOBs.

Unless the bride at the wedding also gives the thumbs up, then the grooms permission means NOTHING!

Never circumvent the bride. You gotta ask her for the final go ahead.

Exactly. The Allies were lucky as **** that Stalin decided to stand pat with half of Germany. It was lucky for the Allies that Hitler had thrown so many troops at the eastern front.

All of these "dressing for the occasion" posts reminded me of attending my nieces medical school graduation at the Carver School of Medicine (the best part of that rival school). I wore a blue blazer and tie. I was not overdressed based on the extended group I was attending with. What stood out to me was the one old dude attending wearing overalls and a yellow Hawkeye tee-shirt.

Shorts - If this is a church wedding, then I personally would say no to shorts. If you want to make a quick change before the reception, that would work. I would still wear decent sandals/boat shoes with it.

Yes, I would say get the okay from the bride before going with the shorts. You may tick off the mothers, but the bride's okay is what counts.

    Re: Random thoughts thread

So here's 00clones' messed up head for you:

Relative or 10 strangers, I'd take the 10 strangers all day. 10 strangers will probably die in my county today, it's not that many...100, might be different, but 10 isn't a blip on the radar.

    But

The 1,000,000 and one stranger dies, I wouldn't do it.

I guess in the first one, you're losing something you have and cherish, so I can justify it as 'self defense'-ish, but the second is just greed for gain.

*edit: Shorts to a wedding...I wouldn't personally do it, unless it's a beach wedding. My wife is the one more likely to get the raised eyebrow from me about what to wear to a wedding than me from her...however...part of me kind of thinks the "Oh, don't p1$$ off the bride" thing has jumped the shark into the bridezilla expectation that EVERYTHING BE PERFECT. I don't know, it seems that the wedding is made into such a production that it messes women up on expectations and selfishness.

Just to play devil's advocate, don't those ten people have people they love? Ultimately, it will effect more loved ones for them to die than your one loved one.

By the way, there is no right or wrong answer to the question. It's the way you answer the question that determines if you may have psychopathic tendencies. I would say your response would show you potentially do not have psychopathic tendencies.

Edit: actually, re-reading your response, it may not be so clear....
