Can I be grateful it's not snowing so that my car looks like this?

Since you can get the answer to many of life's questions on CF, I have two quick ones I need the answer or your opinion on.

1.) Is it okay to wear shorts to a wedding in July? It is supposed to be 95 degrees the day of the wedding and I don't feel like wearing pants in 95 degree weather.

I found a picture and they look like this:

2.) Said wedding in July is this Friday. Why would you get married on a Friday? A lot of people I talked to that were invited aren't going just because it is on a Friday at 5:30 and they don't want to or can't take work off.

My thought would be that the only way those would be acceptable is if the wedding is on a beach. If you have an indication that the wedding is informal, then light-weight khakis and a short-sleeved button-up should suffice. If it's a formal wedding (unlikely at 5.30 on a Friday), then suck it up, buttercup...nice slacks & long-sleeved shirt & tie. Jacket optional, and you can pity the poor fools in the tuxes.

no shorts unless a beach wedding. Friday weddings are often waaaaaaay cheaper than Saturday weddings. BFF had a Friday wedding and they saved quite a bit. They also had to invite like 500 people and she was more than ok with a Friday night weeding out people.

Is this an Iowa wedding? If so (or a midwest non-big city wedding) you should be fine with khakis. Plus since it's evening, it should be cooling off as the night goes on. We were at a wedding two years ago in Des Moines and the A/C in the reception venue wasn't working until about 7pm. Poor DH and the rest of the groomsmen were dying - they had spent the hour after the ceremony taking photos in a vineyard. It was a pretty wedding, but holy heck was it warm!

We went to a wedding at Riemen Gardens a few years back that was so hot and humid people were taking off their dress shirts to just wear undershirts. Some of these people were older men too. One of the groomsman passed out.

It was the worst hour I have ever experienced outside (but makes a hell of a wedding story!)

The groom is from western Iowa and the bride is from eastern Nebraska. The wedding is in Lincoln.

Unless the United States suddenly breaks in half and places Lincoln on the newly formed coastline, it is not a beach wedding.

If you could do it all over again, would you wear shorts and a short-sleeve button up?

I had a cousin get married in the Botanical Center in Des Moines. It was during the winter, so at least it was dark outside already, but it's like 400% humidity in there. Very uncomfortable.

One of our daughters got married there as well, and had the reception in one of the meeting rooms. I was pretty unimpressed with the venue. Beautiful place, not really set up for weddings...at least not back then.

With the heat I could see getting away with the short sleeve button up and lite weight slacks.

I meant the design. I couldn't find a picture of a Nocona boot (hand crafted in the USA baby) with that design on it.

If you could go back in time to when Hitler was a baby, and knowing what you know now, would you murder baby Hitler? And maybe as a caveat, it can't be a peaceful murder. You have to like, suffocate him, or drown him or throw him off a building or shoot him in the face or something. Something brutal and messy.
I've contemplated this random thought before.

While killing Hitler before the war would save millions of lives, it would also change or possible negate several million more.

The millions of immigrants who came to the US right before, during, and after World War II would have been less likely to leave a peaceful Europe. That's a crap load of people that wouldn't be meeting, falling in love, and having babies in America. Some people parents would never have been born, so you might never have been born.
Similar repercussions with baby boomers. So many babies born right after the war that most likely would not have been born, at least not as many. My mom was a post-war baby. The timing likely would have been different if my Grandpa wasn't on a ship in the Pacific during the war and I might not be here.

Then you have to take into account the economic impact of WWII. War economy and production catapulted the US into the forefront as industrial leaders of the world. The US would have recovered eventually from the Great Depression but it would not have been as quickly as the war allowed. Some might argue that a more gradual recovery may have been better, but the argument still stands.

Finally, you have to consider that the political climate in Europe was terrible with or without Hitler. Maybe some other leader rallies Germany. Likely without a mass genocide, but war may have occurred either way. Then there's Stalin. Before Hitler pulled a major **** up and decided to double cross Stalin, Russia was part of the Axis powers. The Nazis ended up being a nice buffer between Stalin and the rest of Europe. Hitlers ill fated attempts to attack Russia during winter took massive tolls in manpower and resources from both the Nazis and the Russians. Without Germany as a buffer the US and its allies may have been trying to fight the Russian juggernaut and Japan. Who knows what the outcome would have been in that fight.

So many different things to consider. Hitler was one man, but the his net effect on the world population was massive, both extreme negative swings and post war population growth. It would be incredibly interesting to find out what the results would be.
