    Re: WTF Maintenance guy?

So I just called my landlord and they basically said "well we don't think he works for us" and I said he has a ******* key to my apartment. And they said that basically they contract out work for drywall stuff. I told them that if I was a woman here alone I would be very scared of what just happened. They acted like it was no big deal so I got pretty ****** at them. I told them to call me back when they solved the problem or I would call again asking them what they did about it. They don't seem to care, at all.......so I doubt anything gets done about it. Not sure what my next step should be, if I was a landlord I wouldn't want that person doing stuff for me.

That was an ok story, needed better character development and a plot twist or two wouldn't have hurt.

I forgot to add that I shot him in the chest, but it turns out that he was wearing a bullet proof vest and lived. He then jumped out of the window on the 5th floor and did a tuck roll on the ground. When he was running away he crossed the street and a semi carrying dildos hit him. RIP ***** truck.

I'd pay $7.50 to see that movie.

    Re: WTF Maintenance guy?

It may do you well to read up on renter's rights. I was once awoken by a maintenance guy testing a smoke detector above my bed. That didn't go over well. Know your rights, if the landlord doesn't play along escalate accordingly.

    562A.19 ACCESS.
    1. The tenant shall not unreasonably withhold consent to the
landlord to enter into the dwelling unit in order to inspect the
premises, make necessary or agreed repairs, decorations, alterations,
or improvements, supply necessary or agreed services, or exhibit the
dwelling unit to prospective or actual purchasers, mortgagees,
    tenants, workers, or contractors.
    2. The landlord may enter the dwelling unit without consent of
the tenant in case of emergency.
    3. The landlord shall not abuse the right of access or use it to
harass the tenant. Except in case of emergency or if it is
impracticable to do so, the landlord shall give the tenant at least
twenty-four hours' notice of the landlord's intent to enter and enter
    only at reasonable times.
    4. The landlord does not have another right of access except by
court order, and as permitted by sections 562A.28 and 562A.29, or if
the tenant has abandoned or surrendered the premises.

Yes I know that, but what am I to do? Sue? I don't really care that much other than the guy should be fired.

yeah, I'm getting at exactly what Tony just posted. I know that it's in our lease that unless it's an emergency, they have to give 24 hours notice. If they didn't notify you and can't confirm that this person was given permission to be in your apartment today, that would fall under "breaking in" for me. If you want to be a total badass, I'd demand your key back from cashew-stealer and make him leave. But that's just what badass pretend-me would do. Real-life me would probably do something decidedly less brave.

I would think it would allow you to break your lease should you want to move right now, which I would guess you don't. Does your apt belong to a larger management company or do you just deal with the landlord (basically can you go over their heads).
