Need plumber for water softener install

Seems like a simple request right? Not so much. Long story short, I can buy a GE water softener from Home Depot for ~$450 after a 10% discount. From the research I've done, the GE 40k model will be sufficient for my house and is probably he best buy out of the mid-range softeners. Anyway, I've contacted multiple companies around the Des Moines area that will only install the particular softeners they sell and the cheapest I've been quoted is $1,200, which is about (depending on labor) $400 more than I should be paying as their softeners are essentially no different than the GE model. So, if anyone knows of a good plumber, feel free to post up their information.

Many companies are starting to do that with the big box/discount retailers. They (Home Depot) typically have their own set of subs, so maybe try that?

Yep. Tried that. They have contractors that install everything else in their store, except water softeners.

Re: Need plumber for water softener install

Pretty standard procedure that they won't install someone else's stuff. They make a lot of markup on their water heaters. Try Craigslist services, find a plumber that does work on the side over the weekend, or the best advice is above, to learn the new skill and do it yourself. If you're halfway handy you should be able to figure it out.
