From what I've read this guy has been a racist ******* for a long time. No one that knows anything about him is surprised. I'd be shocked if it wasn't true. Hell just read what he said when he was sued for housing discrimination.

Let me first say I find out audio clips disgusting. However, the league has looked past all of his actual manifestations of his racism-- his hiring pratices, refusal to rent to minorities, etc. and it's this tape that sent it over the edge?

The larger issue is the NBA has turned a blind eye to him for so many years.

    This is exactly right.

I was chatting with an old Marine buddy who was in town about three weeks ago (lives in LA) and we got to talking about LA sports. Eventually we got to the topic of the Lakers and that LA is Lakers first and then everything else (including the Dodgers). While discussing the Clippers he educated me on what a POS Sterling is (I had no idea) and how everybody knows it and has known it for fifteen years.

Anybody feigning shock over this is full of ****. Disgusitng, yes. Surprising, no way.

Why did the LA NAACP give Sterling an award in 2009?
Why were they going to give him another one THIS YEAR?
Why did Magic Johnson call him a friend?
Why has the NBA never addressed his track record as a racist bigot?

Elgin Baylor could have (and probably did) tell all these parties what Sterling is about way back in 2008-09.

They've said they are going to do something bigger but wanted to wait until they were at home. Not sure what they could be doing, I can't see them boycotting the game.

Agreed, Sterling is a racist but he's been one a long time and doesn't hide it. If the league didn't have a problem with it then, why does it now? Is it just because of the social media outcry on this latest quote, which really isn't any worse than Sterling's previous "black people smell and attract vermin" quote, is it because Magic Johnson is involved?

Of course I don't agree with what he said, but I just don't understand why some people out there act like its the first racist person we've ever seen. He could have gotten an OWI, or punched a guy in the face and probably seen less backlash that he's getting.

Bingo. You can screw minorities out of jobs, housing, etc., but damnit you say something derogatory on a tape and every writer in America is going to write a cutting-edge piece on race relations about you.

The tape is bad, don't get me wrong, but all this has turned into is a lob-ball to journalists to write about how the Clippers should walk out, etc., all the while missing the true issue that the NBA has let a known racist run an organization for years without any reprimand.

I largely agree with this. The guy is 80 years old-- he was all of 20-25 years old during the Civil Rights Movement. Rich, white 80 year old racists aren't exactly a new breed-- there are plenty of them around. What he said is awful, but hardly earthshattering. What are you going to tell me next, the rich, white 80 year old also voted for Romney in the last election? Wha-wha-wha-whaaaat?

Again, not to condone any of this, but I think it's just become fodder for "journalists" at this point.

I hope they come out wearing plain white jerseys with only the players names and numbers on them.
