Re: Donald Sterling (Owner of the Clippers) is incredibly racist

Magic Johnson is a mastermind. Takes instagram picture with racist Clippers owners' girlfriend. Now will end up buying Clippers at discounted rate.

“One day we’ll be in here celebrating a Big 12 championship,” Rhoads said. “That I can promise you.”

"I hope to coach here until I retire," Hoiberg said.

Well if they were losing sponsors and could cause the NBA as a whole to lose sponsors, then it forced the NBA to step in.

I guess I now just don't understand what you own when you own an NBA team. How can you be banned from the NBA, but be expected to do things like honor player contracts?

I think the action is justified, I just can't understand how this will all work.
The teams are franchises, so technically the NBA ultimately owns the rights and all that I'd imagine. As far as severing the lease I assume there's a board of some kind that would have to vote on a move such as that.

I'm guessing the owners are gonna vote for Sterling to keep the team, which could mean this could become nasty between sterling and the owners. This is far by over yet...

He was never convicted of it. Silver said it during the press conference. Players will follow money but he was never truly convicted of being a racist. The free agents could have researched him and knew this was possibly a consequence of him being the owner.

Adam Silver has the testicles to deal with this issue. David Stern didn't.

Magic will need some people with big pockets. A bidding war will happen over the Clippers and reports say easily over a billion.
I hope they go after another racist, Spike Lee. Please remove him from all NBA games.

Adam Silver just gained a ton of respect while also making a name for himself... Not a bad day for him.

Well also understand Sterling was an old owner and getting rid of them in such a young league would've been a bad idea from a business standpoint.

Ban hammer - they enforced the correct penalty IMO. He bought the team for $12.5 mil in 81', the league is gonna force him sell. Yahoo reported the bids will start at a $Bill$. Too bad the $2.5mil fine is the most they can fine.

I don't know how Stern would have dealt with this specific case, but as Adam Silver's first test - he aced it.

That was the best press conference i've ever heard by a public figure. He was decisive and quick, and then answered the questions directly with as few words as possible - no equivocating or opining. Politicians should take lessons from this guy, it was brilliant.

I was listening Jay Mohr in the car during the presser and Jay about lost it, he was downright giddy and couldn't stop raving about Silver. He broke in after the question started and summed the statement up this way
"I AM THE FRICKIN' COMMISSIONER OF THE NBA!! WHAT IS MY NAME!?!?!"
