No, I got you and for me it's probably my personal favorite moment and one of the best experiences of my life. Maybe it's just more that I don't want a regular season victory (albeit to an outstanding oSu team) to be the greatest thing in ISU athletic history. Like others have said I think Fred will end up blowing this other stuff out of the water...

    1) Barry Steven's game winner in '83 to "launch" hilton magic and revive our bbal program
    2) Cael finishing his career undefeated
    3) G thompson beating Wilt Chamberlain
    4) Fred Hoiberg signing with Iowa State
    5) Creighton hiring Greg McDermott (I'm serious...)

I'll second this. I think Fred is going to have us playing for a National Championship before he's done here.

But if I'm forced to pick right now, I think the OSU football win might be it?

I also really enjoyed Orr's win over Michigan that one year in the NCAA Tourney will Elmer Robinson's dunk near the end. I can still remember the announcer's for that game for most of the game saying how it looked like the varsity versus the JV out there with Michigan being the varsity team and ISU the JV team. And then we beat them. That was awesome!

Seneca's win over Iowa at Kinnick was a special night for me because I was there and it was awesome rubbing it in to all the Hawk fans around me who were basically spitting in my face at halftime of that game laughing at me. I got the last laugh on that night though. Obviously this wasn't the best sports night in ISU history, but personally for me it was one of the most enjoyable.

We were staying at some friends' house in IC that weekend and tailgating at Kinnick. Our hostess was talking smack big time in the first half. We didn't give it back to her in the second half, we would just nod knowingly and look at her everytime ISU would score. She, to this day, says that is the reason she refuses to ever again talk smack during a game.

2000 MBB entire season. Regular season title, tourney title, and ncaa tournament run. Easily #1 for me so far.

Re: What do you think is the greatest moment in ISU sports history?

Yes! Winning the 1996 Big 8 basketball tournament by one point over KU in the final is definitely up there! This game was big for MBB. Winning our first at the last Big 8. The win over Iowa in 98' comes to mind and so does the win over Pitt in the Insight Bowl. Sorry, OK St. would be further down my list in terms having any type of meaning. I'd probably think of NE in 92' with MS at QB before the OK St game, not to say it wasn't a fun win.

Hoiberg being hired, because he will have the biggest moment in Iowa State history soon. And I was at the OSU game and predicted we would win it. Just had a feeling.

Re: What do you think is the greatest moment in ISU sports history?

I agree with others that it's yet to come, but beating Oklahoma State in 2011 is not it.

It's flat out embarrassing how people cling on to that win like it was for a national championship. I was hyped after the game, thinking maybe it could be a springboard out of mediocrity (like how Stanford became a power after upsetting USC in 2007), but we never capitalized on the win and I think that window is closed. Now, it's just another upset...and if it's the biggest feather ISU can stick in their hat, that's pretty sad.

As per usual in these things, I'd be interested to know the age breakdown in this. Younger, probably OSU. Older, probably something else.

"Moment" witnessed by me, either Luther Blue's kickoff return or Billup's punt return. I did not see Woddy's TD but that has to be up there too.

Re: What do you think is the greatest moment in ISU sports history?

I've been a fan since '97 and to me it was blowing out UCLA in the '00 sweet 16 when the media was slobbering all over UCLA. Zero doubt in my mind that team was at least the second best team in the nation and best ISU team since I've been a fan.

Second, or #1 football, would be the OK State win.

Third would be our Big 12 tournament this year.

Getting Fred Hoiberg as our Head Men's Basketball Coach. We are going to win a National Title with him at the helm.

(But collectively, if I had to pick something in all of ISU history.... it would be the 99-2000 Men's Basketball Team's season. Should have been National Champs.)
