The Cleveland Show is the reason behind King of the Hill being cancelled. The Cleveland Show was (is?) a HORRIBLE spinoff.

Yes on all accounts. Based on searches on spin off series

Also as far as future spinoffs, sometime this summer I believe they are doing a Boy meets World spinoff called Girl meets world. Cory plays a teacher and show centers around his daughter.

Speaking of Beavis & Butt-Head spinoffs — "Daria" also was a spinoff. Underrated, I might add.

Re: Friday OT - Best/Worst Spinoff Series

The best starts and ends with Frasier. There really is no other show in history to have basically MORE success being a spin off. And besides that, it's flat out really really smart and funny. I still love that show.

The Simpson's is right up there after being a short on Tracey Ullman.

Beat me to it. The worst spinoff that never was? The abandoned Office spinoff about Dwight and his extended family living on his beet farm. They wasted an episode of the last season trying to set it up, and thankfully the NBC execs thought better of it and dropped it.

"Law & Order" spinoffs SVU & Criminal Intent were solid (CI only w/ D'Onofrio & Erbe).

Those came along around the time when L&O cast began to suck.

I don't know if Frasier could be deemed more successful than Cheers, but it's close. It's a rare case when a massively popular, critically-acclaimed series rivaled its predecessor's success.

"Happy Days" is considered a spinoff of "Love, American Style." That show did well (although it ran at least 4 seasons too long...)

Re: Friday OT - Best/Worst Spinoff Series

A few spinoffs of equal merit compared to the “father series”:
    • “Frasier” (from “Cheers”)
    • “The Jeffersons” (from “All in the Family”)
    • “Daria" (from “Beavis and Butt-Head”)
    • “The Facts of Life” (from “Diff’rent Strokes”)
    • "Laverne and Shirley" (from "Happy Days")
    • “Benson” (from “Soap”)

Depends on what you define as successful. Both shows ran for 11 years. Cheers racked up 28 Emmy wins in those years but Frasier actually beat that handily with 37. Kelsey Grammar and David Hyde Pierce each won four Emmy's and the show remains the record holder for Best Comedy Show wins with five in a row. Cheers won it four times, though not consecutively.

I love both shows. I just think Frasier, in terms of critical reception and following, etc. is a little more successful.

Another one for worst category is the 3's company spinoff Three's a Crowd.

Eh, I won't disagree on Cleveland Show being horrible, but I don't think it can really be blamed for ending King of the Hill. Hell, I think it would be silly to even be mad about King of the Hill ending when it did. The show ran like 10 seasons and was clearly winding down the last couple years. The fact that a ****** Family Guy spinoff showed up shortly thereafter is just coincidence.
