They're unpredictable and I certainly wouldn't bet so much as a dollar on them, but if you're looking for trends then their postseason results show that they'll probably bounce back tonight. Gortat doesn't figure to turn in a Shaq-esque stat line, and it's doubtful that the Pacers (a good rebounding team all season) will get pounded on the boards again. But we'll see.

And Indy advances. West put on a midrange game clinic and John Wall's shaky jumper abandoned him. Probably not the s-c-r-i-p-t they had in mind when the playoffs started, but the Pacers get what they wanted - another shot at the defending champs.

From 15 teams that I was rooting for in the playoffs, all the way down to 3.

OKC/SAS - Spurs in six. They've been here too many times, and defensively they'll figure out a way to slow down Westbrook or Durant, and I don't see a third star for OKC to pick up the slack.
IND/MIA - Kills me, but the Heat in six. I can't take Indy seriously at this point; their tendency to produce an inexplicable stink bomb every couple games is not something they can overcome against a team as good as Miami. And with a healthy Dwayne Wade I'm not sure anyone can stop Miami from a three-peat.

Steven Adams is involved in 11 of the Thunder's 19 best lineups so far in the playoffs, Kendrick Perkins is included in two of those same 19. Yet before last night, Perkins was averaging 22 mpg and Adams just 14. Adams needs to play a lot more than Perkins next round.

I'm also thinking Miami in six, but I think it's going to be another tough series like last year. I expect Indy to ride all their starters for major minutes each game as the Pacers defense really falls off once they go to almost anyone off their bench. Haslem will probably be back in the starting line up for the Heat and Birdman's minutes will be way up as Miami will have to play two bigs a lot more than they like to due to the Pacer's size. One major difference from last year is that Bosh has proven to be a much better and more willing 3-point shooter this year. He's going to be able to get a lot of open looks from out there.

Miami has struggled shooting the three at times this post-season, their offense becomes a lot more average when that happens. Hill is the only place to hide a poor defender on the Pacers starters so if Allen isn't hitting, it's going to be hard to keep him on the floor as I think Lance will be able to work him over on the offensive end. Once again, it would be really nice to have Mike Miller for this series.

Think the Pacers give them trouble. Thinking Heat win in 7. Oden reportedly isn't playing and the Heats bench sucks. I think Wade has a huge series and we see a big fight between him and Stevenson. Haslem guards Hibbert and Bosh length on West. I'm doing a bit better on my picks this year too.

Haha I agree with this except instead of a big fight we will see some intense stare downs and maybe a push or two. There are no real fights in the NBA anymore and Wade would want nothing to do with Lance if there were.

Re: *** Official 2014 NBA Playoffs Thread ***

The key to the series is Hibbert. If he's the 20 and 10 guy that made Lebron think twice about getting to the rim last year in the conference finals, then I give Indy a puncher's chance. But if he's anything less than that I just don't see it happening. Their size in the frontcourt is their only real advantage, so if Hibbert can't exploit it then that's the series.

The Stephenson/Wade angle makes me nervous. I don't worry about a fight, but I do worry about Wade antagonizing Stephenson into doing something stupid at the worst possible time.

It'll be a good series, but put it this way: The Pacers need a lot more things to go right to win it than the Heat do to win it. And Game 1 is rarely a must win in a series, but I think this time around it is. The Pacers went hard all season trying to lock down the #1 seed and home court if it came down to them and Miami again. Now here they are, and if they give it away in Game 1 with a home loss then not only have they lost the game but they've also given Miami a psychological advantage.
