Re: Hoiberg Raise - now makes $2.6M

Fred started at the bottom end of the salary range based on no head coaching experience. His results in a short term have produced multiple increases due to this. Well deserved and smart on Pollard's part both starting him at the bottom and increasing his salary as Fred has proven he can produce results with minimal head coaching experience.

Even if he is not doing it the right way

I love Fred and know you have to pay to play but it is hard to get excited about someone now making 10x more than needed to live like a king in Central Iowa. Oh, and I am bummed veisha got $hi+canned too.

I agree with the salary increase.

To play devil's advocate - why increase it? His contract was already set, he got his bonuses from the tourney, and if he wants to leave it's not a money issue (since no other terms changed).

In my opinion it is all about making sure that he feels everything is being done to make him welcome and appreciated. When things aren't going well and he wonders why he is putting himself and his family through all of the recruiting trips and being at the whim of 17 year old kids it pays off for him to not be able to point at anything where ISU did just enough to get by as far as appreciating him is concerned.

I went on the record before as saying he wouldn't bolt if he didn't get a raise this year since he has gotten them both of the last two years, but at the same time given where he started and what he has accomplished it certainly is the right thing to do.

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr

Money's not an issue. But, that doesn't mean that if he's not compensated what he and his agent feel is his market value, that it couldn't become an issue. He was what? 8th in the Big XII for salary this year? The last thing you want to do with a hometown hero is make it seem like you're taking him for granted. He's performed like one of the top coaches in the conference. Pay him like it. Don't let something that's not an issue become one.

Let's say we reach the Elite 8 next year. Are we talking about annual raises from us with no concessions from him?

That's a bridge you cross if and when that happens. Obviously, there is a limit to what the school can/will do, but each year will be different, and that limit will probably change based on a lot of factors.

Are you serious? No concessions? This is not a settlement.

If we reach the Elite Eight next year we beg him to sign a lifetime contract and offer to sacrifice mtowncyclone if needed.

VEISHEA was cancelled. I'm sure veisha will still go on this weekend.

Re: Hoiberg Raise - now makes $2.6M

I think it was a deserved raise but I think it could have waited a year. It's not a guarantee that he stays but it's very unlikely that he leaves this year with how the year went and with all the guys coming back. I think next year would of been a good time to give the raise as long as the team got as far if not deeper in the tourney.

It's kind of nice that this happened right before BDJ comes to town. "We have an NBA quality coach, making NBA type money, who will help you get to the NBA."

P.S. Why is the BDJ thread locked?

“That’s how good they are,” said Moton, whose MEAC champion Eagles (28-5) are on a 20-game win streak. “I couldn’t sleep (Monday) night. I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about DeAndre Kane — and that’s reality. … They just present so many different matchup nightmares across the board.”

He said "OMW" on twitter and people kept spamming the thread with fake phrases like "on my weiner" to explain what it meant.
