Good for him, although I find the move interesting/odd for the type of show that these network late-nights have been for a while. Which, for me shows it as a unabashedly transparent move for younger viewers. Either way, I hope it goes well, and I desperately hope they give him enough freedom to do what he wants with the show, because that's just as important in terms of attracting viewers.
I'm sure Stephen will still be funny, but late night shows are always all about guests. The Report rarely got big guests and the show was more about Colbert.

I'll definitely watch, but I'm worried about him and CBS trying to compete with Fallon at his own game. Jimmy has that host style down and is killing it right now.

So what now for Comedy Central and their late night lineup? I bet they wish John Oliver hadn't bolted for his own show on HBO.

Edit: How about Adam Carolla? Name recognition, hosting experience, might draw a broader audience than a political satire show like the COlber Report.

That was always the joke with Colbert's guests. Hence all the fanfare for him when the guest is introduced. I'm also not sure that it's all about the guests. I know plenty of people who would shut the television off and go to bed when it got to the interviews.

Like I said before, I doubt this is a move to try and compete with Fallon at his own game. That's just bad business. I think they're trying to capture their own niche market of viewers, the bulk of which already exists.

SNL has had plenty of funny women.

Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig...the first two could definitely be contenders for a late night show.

I've started getting back into watching SNL mostly because the newer group of women - Cecily Strong, Kate Mckinnon, Vanessa Bayer - are all pretty funny.

SNL has had great women for a while, right now they carry the show. I think both Fey and Poehler could be candidates. Handler and Shumer are the female equivalent of fart jokes, if you take away homosexuality, vaginas, interracial sex and promiscuity neither bring much to the table. Not saying they aren't funny, just not what network TV is looking for. Ellen would pry be the best female candidate.

Comedy Central has over a year to figure out a replacement show.

Forgot about Ellen, but I feel like she's got her daytime spot pretty well locked up.

I'm currently watching the video below of Colbert interviewing Neil deGrasse Tyson out of character.

He's still very funny and great at being playing devils advocate even if he's not doing it from the fake conservative perspective.

    Long interview, but worth it.

I really like Cecily Strong. She is in about half the skits as well as hosting Weekend Update. Good timing, good singing voice, attractive, but has a everyday woman look like someone you would work with. Won't be surprised to see her in some movies soon.

Absolutely. She's definitely got a big future beyond SNL.

Hah- who said anything about her hosting late night? We were just responding to Rabbuk's distaste for female "comediennes."

Some people can't relate to someone who's not from the same caste as they are. I understand that. I can find all kinds of people funny.
