You mean a degree from his last school right? So why did he come to our academic institution other then to play basketball? Pretty sure has not earned a masters degree here yet or do I have that wrong?

1 degree is better than absolutely having no interest in any degree. If you are going to tighten up any rule, you start with the one-and-dones who will never come close to getting a college education.
Do yo think most redshirt seniors players that do not transfer stay and graduate from grad school?

It's pretty remarkable that Fred is able to incorporate transfers the way he does, while seemingly increasing team moral/unity. For a one year guy like Kane to step up and take such a strong leadership role, and for the rest of the team to rally around that, it's impressive.

Well done, DeAndre! We were privileged to have you.

I agree with you there, but back to DeAndre he really was just here to play ball(and I'm glad he did), but ISU is an academic institution and that is supposed to be the main focus. I'm pretty sure that's what the NCAA was after with this rule and the way it's being used now not so much.

whats to say he isn't putting his masters oh hold until he is done being a pro? I don't have a problem with this. At least he currently has one degree to fall back on if the pros don't workout, that is more than most guys who leave early for the draft.

No different than any redshirt senior that has graduated. Most do not graduate from grad school or complete the semester. Heck, most senior football players that have a chance at the NFL do not attend spring semester, when they are so close to graduating.

You are about 40 years too late in your crusade.

How about we keep this about Deandre and not the stupid NCAA rules? DK impacted this team and community like few before him, he will always have a special place in the heart of this Cyclone!

I think I read a Cuban article that he wanted the high school seniors (potential 1 and done guys) to go to the NBA development league instead of college for 1 year.

Re: DeAndre Kane's Special Message to Cyclone Nation

DeAndre's story is a good lesson... You may be defined by what you do but you can always choose to do something different. You are not doomed to your reputation.

While fans are Marshall may have a different opinion, I won't ever think of DeAndre as anything but a classy young man (young as compared to me) who was a positive influence on this team. A great Cyclone!

Re: DeAndre Kane's Special Message to Cyclone Nation

I believe DeAndre is leaving Iowa State with something way more valuable than another degree. He turned his past around and gained new confidence in himself that will pay dividends the rest of his life. We got to enjoy DeAndre and be part of his change/growth. Good luck to DK in whatever he tries.

It's not like 100% of people entering grad school walk out with a degree. I've seen colleagues in class find a job and move on. His job aspiration happens to involve basketball. I'm not seeing a real problem here.

He can always come back and finish, like you're saying, or he can move on with life, like plenty of people do.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

I consider this team winners, and but for a few tough breaks "somente Deus quem sabe quanto temos ganhado." That means "only God knows how much we would have won. We could never have come near as far without DeAndre, and so we are blessed forever that he came to this school. He was everything we ever could have hoped he would be.
