Re: Monday Musings: The future is bright for Cyclone basketball

if we can pick up a JUCO PF and G I think we will be really good. I love Niang, but the guy needs to get some rest during games. If we can get him back-up that serve admirably in his place while he rests, I think that will be key.

Also, if Thomas and SDW can develop as one poster said into legitimate long range shooters, this team will be nasty. Teams will have to commit to the outside and not pack the paint to stop Niang, Hogue or McKay.

I'm thinking Hoiberg goes the JUCO route this summer more than the transfer route.

Waiting....could have used one last game....three or four people have applied for that job...

My concern is also free throw shooting. We would be much more dangerous if we could hit free throws better.

    We have room for improvement.

Let my Fred's Posse Ride: Georges, Naz, Hogue, Bryce, Nader, Monte, Matt, and McKay.

I loved Morris' comments in Petersen's article: Defense defense defense.

Baby Babb indeed! Since he's still playing for the Celtics, maybe Willoughby would drop by for some defense lessons?

I'll take the other side of that bet. Really there aren't a lot of available Juco's that we have interest in at this stage from what I've read/seen.

I see us taking 2-3 (depending on if someone leaves) transfers. The only question will be who, what position and are they immediate or do they sit a year.

Agreed. With Hogue and McKay, I think we could be pretty scrappy on D. Hopefully Nader can D up too.

I think Morris/Naz/Hogue/McKay/Edozie could be the best defensive team ISU has put on the floor since '00.

I agee with this. I hope our staff doesn't give up the battle.

Fred has proven his success with transfers and that is why a school like OSU has to squeeze him. OSU can't demonstrate the same success as Fred.

Plus, OSU doesn't come close to the style of play that he seemed to be looking for which makes his decision even more perplexing. If he sticks with OSU he may fall in to the same trap as Tarik Black at KU.

I wish him well and still hope he gives ISU a chance by stopping by to see what ISU has to offer. This is probably the biggest decision of his life, and he seemed content to take his time and get it right. Hopefully he'll reflect on that and decide to consider us.

Read somewhere that Morris wants to put on 15 pounds. Why? I mean, I know he is real skinny, but what about his performance this year makes us think he needs to put on that much weight? I would be content for him just to keep developing his skills at his current weight.

I would guess it is so he can't get pushed off the ball as easily and can fight through screens etc.. on D and so he can take more punishment and finish stronger in the lane on O. A 15 pound heavier/stronger Monte is a very exciting and crucial component for next season IMO.

Look at Kane and Morris standing next to each other. That's why.

I think next year it starts. It was fair before this year. We did have question marks this year with the guys we lost-ones that Kane helped a lot in fixing. Next year, we return a LOT. Plus the system is now known and rolling. I will be surprised if we are not Top 10-15 heading in to the year.

Because he is a twig and 15 more pounds would help him immensely. Especially if his ultimate goal is the NBA.
