    Tivo/DVR info please?

I just called dish network to upgrade to a dvr. I figured you just rented the unit or whatever on a monthly basis....turns out they want 200-150 up front. They did have a $100 rebate but thats most likely in the form of 5 or 10 dollars per month off your bill.

I dont think im going to go that route. I guess if going to spend that much money on a DVR, id rather just own the thing and not be roped into another 18 months(or whatever contractually).

Anyone have any suggestions on a brand in particular or any problems they've encountered with a dvr? I also own a DVD recorder. Can i record onto DVD from the DVR? Ive read a little online that says its possible.

the Dish 622 is one sweet machine... worth every penny i spent on it. Two tuners, i can record two shows and watch a third since I have an aerial antenna.

Best HD machine out on the market.

anyone have the directv HD DVR? Have their HD receiver and like it, just not familiar with their DVRs. Probably be going that route in the spring and moving tivo somewhere else, like the basement for the kiddies.

Wow, 200 for a dvr is pricey. Directv has their Hr20 HD for $299. The regular tivos are free.

Yeah $200 up front (worth every penny) and then $10 off each month for 10 months if a subscribing to their HD package (~$20). You will LOVE it....

I have the tivo model of the directv dvr. Greatest piece of consumer a/v equipment ever. The directv ones are good, they were terrible at the beginning, but with patches they have become a lot better. The HR20 is the only one capable of getting all the new HD channels, so it is the only way to go right now.

HR20 here. Make sure if you go to directv you get everything you need when you sign up before your on contract. Also make sure they get you the HR20 and not HR21 if OTA HD is important to you.

Last I heard the hr20's were not available anymore. Bad move by DTV on that one, that is why I have been holding off switching from the HR10-250 to the HR20/21.
