I don't care what anybody says, SDW is going to be good. Real good on offense. He has the highest ceiling of any of our young SG's.

Just from the few minutes he plays you can tell he has good size, athleticism, good handle, gets after it on defense, good shooter if he gets up more than just a few shots. He obviously has something he needs to work on to get minutes but I don't know what that is.
He is too skinny. If he tried to drive consistently like Kane he would get killed in the big 12. He has talent just needs to bulk up more.

Few guards are like Kane, yet they are able to drive consistently. The too skinny thing is overblown, and it is more about an inability to defend and rebound at a high level. Obviously some bulk helps, but there are tons of guys like SDW that are effective at driving in college, as long as they have a tough mindset. Hell, maybe SDW would actually get the foul call when he gets bodied and hacked.

He had a scholarship to Cornell, screwed up on his admission paperwork (got it in too late), and then couldn't get a straight answer about whether he'd be accepted. His dad was friends with Gary Cook, then assistant to Johnny. ISU was having issues with guard play, and wanted Jeff, but they didn't have any scholarships to give him right away. He walked on around Christmas (shortly after, I think), and then got a scholarship starting his sophomore season. He was not a walk on because he wasn't good enough, he was a walk on because ISU didn't have a scholarship to give him by the time Jeff was interested in Iowa State.

Actually, that's not what you said at all. You said "He's not playing". Twice in one post.

nice to see you are already backing away from the idiocy in this post:

AGAIN...he's already far behind two underclassmen...that even if we didn't recruit another guard for two full years....he's still not playing in front of Naz or matt....much less any other recruits or transfers we bring in.

my offer still stands...he scores 20 in a game...I'll chew my foot off. Right off the bone.

    Hes not playing.

Context...context. My response is to the OP claiming he will play next year. Hes not.

Maybe in two years when hes a senior...he could possibly have a 10-12 minute ceiling.

Idiocy? Please refute anything not factual in that post. He IS behind two current underclassmen....he IS 5th in guard depth chart...he will most likely be behind any transfer we get or reruints we bring in.

Idiocy is seeing a missed layup and a 17 point garbage time performance and claiming your seeing things in his game that just simply are not happening.

Idiocy is irrationally bashing a RS Freshman because he hasn't played yet, stating that he "will not play".

    Re: Dorsey-Walker

For those who think he'll play a different role next year, who is he going to take the minutes from? Don't get me wrong I think the kid has all kinds of potential and could be a good player next year, but we're losing Kane & Ejim and bringing in Nader & McKay with 2 open scholarships left. Unless one of those guys is a complete bust he's going to have to take PT from someone.

I think Edozie is in a similar situation.

How could you possibly write anyone off after what Naz Long did?

I agree but they are the same age, I think SDW will be a solid player for us, I don't see the athleticism ppl are talking about though. He looks like a very "stiff" athlete on the floor, that could have a lot to do with confidence, Naz was similar last year. SDW looked good against bad competition but didn't get a lot of minutes against quality teams, sadly with the depth we have returning, we may not know exactly what type of player he'll be until he's a jr or sr.

    Bla, bla, bla...

DW is going to be a straight-up baller before he leaves the confines of Hilton. He's long, athletic, and can shoot the rock. Just give it some time DW haters.

His athleticism is pretty undeniable..... he just needs minutes to get confidence.

This a really good question, the biggest hurdle for SDW to get on the court is that all of the guys who play his position are Naz, Monte and Matty, all guys that will be around for awhile. Those 3 guys are already way ahead of him in terms of development with equal or less time on campus than him. Throw Custer in the mix and it gets hard to find minutes for SDW. Its more about the guys around him than his talent level.

On a side note, how nice is it to have problems like this. Too many talented guys!
