    I don't know.
In 14 years, he would never notice the lack of diploma? It should arrive at some point in that span.

Re: Manhattan's Masiello Possibly Without ANY Job

Iowa State had this problem with their volleyball coach. I don't remember her name but she was the one before Linda Grensing-Crum (the one before CJL). She's also the one accused of berating players.

Lying on resumes is very common not just in coaching but you'd be surprised how many companies don't double check those things. They'll do a criminal background check and a pre-employment drug test but won't call the registrar to validate a graduation. If Manhattan hired him based on the same resume I doubt they'll take him back for that same reason.

I for one don't think the degree should matter for many jobs, but you can't just lie on the resume. I don't know many companies that would over look that.

Re: Manhattan's Masiello Possibly Without ANY Job

I think it's fair to expect that a college coach has a degree. If part of his sales pitch is going to involve the word 'education,' he needs that tangible evidence that he went to school.

I understand that the diploma doesn't necessarily mean that he's educated and all, but having it takes away the whole discussion, where not having it puts him in a position to be stuck offering explanations to parents that want to hear that their child will have a degree.

My biggest takeaway from all of this is how embarassing this must be. What do you even say? I thought I graduated? Oh they actually read those things?

Maybe he figured it went to the people who did his classwork.

Re: Manhattan's Masiello Possibly Without ANY Job

I think Manhattan will take him back and allow him to complete the amount of credits he has missing. They may make him do it in the summer. However, if I was Manhattan, I would have a fairly massive buy-out clause when Massielo does leave.

Re: Manhattan's Masiello Possibly Without ANY Job

The thing I don't understand is that he went to college for 4 years, and didn't bother to get his degree. Assuming he was something like under 10 credits shy of getting his degree, how could you not just finish? Why invest all the time and money if you're not gonna see it through?

This happened to an employee at my mom's place of business. Someone said they graduated from ISU, and it turned out that they were around 6 credits shy. Why not just take those classes part-time for a semester and finish? I'm sure there are valid reasons in some cases, but otherwise I just don't understand how you could come so close and then not finish.

Manhattan put him on leave while Kentucky "reviews his degree status." What all can go into a review? Did we give you a degree? No? Then you didn't graudate from here.

Kind of off topic, but what if Kobe Bryant retires from the NBA and wants to try coaching college basketball? Sure, he's never played, but he'd get damn near any recruit he wanted just because of his name. Would a place not hire him because he didn't have a degree?
