I've wondered if there is bidding going on for elite recruits, do most of them get a full scholarship right away?
Very few guys in college wrestling are on full rides. But it is definetely safe to say there is bidding for top recruits. Especially with the in-state/out of state difference. We might have to give a guy from, say, Ohio, a .6 schollie just to equal what it would cost him out of pocket to walk on at Ohio State.

To better answer the question though... I think I prefer the Minnesota model of having a lineup full of guys ranked in the 6-15 range who give you a chance to have a good run and win it, but you don't have all your eggs in one basket if somebody doesn't pan out.

Agree completely - Iowa and Penn State recent runs were based on 2 for 1 recruiting, we are back to normal now. Okie state and Minn have the blue print for long term success (the same blue print Iowa is back to having now) UNI's 2 for 1 run is coming to an end soon as well best they could do is top out at 14th with a disappointing NCAA Tourney.

Also Minnesota is doing it with Minnesota kids (Thorns, Ness, Steinhaus, Zilverberg, Branacle, Nelson) Others are nearby Dakotas including Storley and Schiller. That is probably what I like most about the Minnesota program

How did UNI have a 2 for 1 run? Schwab didn't bring any recruits or wrestlers with him from Iowa.

UNI's program doesn't have the ceiling of ISU's but they have a young team (2 freshman and 2 sophs qualified for the NCAAs), have recruited well and will add Wolfensberger back into the mix next year.

The same thing can be said for UNI and their upper weights as people say about Iowa State and their lower weights.

Caldwell, Krumweide, Loder haven't seem to develop since Schwab has gotten there. He seems to be getting it done with the lightweights. About the opposite of us

    Me too.

But I don't think that's quite the Gopher model. Nelson was a 3 time finalist/2 time champ. Ness has another year left and is a two time finalist. Schiller has gone 3rd and 5th the past two years. Storely 4th then 3rd.

Hook line and sinker - Damn you sure know a lot about UNI wrestling, again where do you sit for ISU's wrestling meets?

I also know a lot about Minnesota, OK State, Illinois, PSU, Northwestern, etc. That doesn't mean I'm a fan of theirs. Sounds like you're just a fan of ISU. Nothing wrong with that. But a lot of us are fans of the sport AND a specific school.

There's also this tool called "Google" on "the Internet" where this information can be found in about 30 seconds.

Why hijack this thread with more crap? Annoying. Can we please PLEASE just talk about wrestling?

It is probably the same with North Dakota, but I believe Minnesota has an in-state tuition exchange with South Dakota.

Correct they do with North and South Dakota and I think Wisconsin, but not Iowa

I know you don't answer these questions - probably wouldn't derail the thread if you defended ISU as well as you defend UNI and Iowa.

-Where do you sit for ISU wrestling meets? My guess is the only venue you visit frequently is the UNI dome, West Gym, Kinnick and Carver Hawkeye
-How many ISU wrestling meets have you been to that doesn't involve UNI or Iowa? My guess is 0
-bet you annual cyclone athletics donation is pretty large, my guess is its $0

Sorry guys, I let the troll walk through the door when I said his buddy Ramos squeaked through the tourney.

no worries - look at my post count - I have fueled most of today and I don't frequently post. Cyclone report was ruined by Impostor Trolls like NEICyFan and I would like to prevent it here. Not sure if feeding the impostor is the right tactic but hey, it's kept me entertained today.
