Fog, Rain, Snow and Christmas Travel

I thought I'd start a thread here for weekend travel given the current blanket of fog and the pending snow.

Has anyone traveled 380/218 between Cedar Rapids and Mason City? Is the fog causing problems?

Any snow on the west part of the state yet?

Visibility is still a quarter mile or less at Mason City, Waterloo and Cedar Rapids. LINK

Shouldn't be much snow in the state until late tonight or Saturday morning. Point and click forecast --> LINK

Ok ... how am I reading this map? What are the units? 3 ... hundred feet?

EDIT: I'm dumb, read the bottom - tenths of a mile. Thanks, how often does it update?

It updates hourly. The time stamp is GMT (Greenwich mean time), which in CST is 6 hours ahead. So the 1500 is actually 9am CST. It has already updated to 1600 (10am).

The fog is almost completely gone in cedar rapids now, so 380 is fine around here. As for the rain/sleet/ice/snow tomorrow that is not supposed to hit till morning/afternoon and from the looks CR will be mostly rain/sleet/ice till around 2 or 3pm then turn to snow

Told the mother-in-law to leave early tomorrow morning to try and beat the weather. She is coming from Macomb, IL, so I hope it is ok.

I'm a storm chaser if that counts, though I have really never found a storm worth chasing, so that may say something about my abilities lol

As long as it's fine this evening, Sunday night, and Monday morning I'm fine. From the looks of the forecasts I've seen I should be ok for travel.

I'm looking to travel from CR to Algona (west of Mason City) either tonight or tomorrow morning. I drove home from a friends house last night and the fog was dense couldn't see over 25 ft in most areas. I'm trying to avoid that.

I am sticking to my guns! For the third straight weekend, it will NOT snow in central Iowa.

ps, I am 0/4 in this predictions, so done base travel plans on me.
