Seriously can that mall get any worse? The theater was one of the last remaining reasons to go there. It's like they are trying to suck. I also love that their "outdoor shopping experience" or whatever they called it ended up being a strip mall with a Great Clips and cell phone store. What a joke.

I drove by the mall in Ames just the other day and thought it looked a lot better, with stores that people would and were actually shopping at. It was the first time I had been up there in a while but I was impressed.

Agreed. It's not a showcase mall but the work done has made it fairly nice. My wife goes there a lot now that there is a Kohls, TJ Maxx, and GAP Outlet outside for clothes for the kids. Plus a lot of the indoor stores have done work and appear to be doing well.

There is definitely new life up there and I hope the theater stays open.

Yeah, I haven't actually been in it forever, but it looks a lot better than it did. Busier too.

From what I have heard it is actually doing quite well. Every time I've been there since the new stores opened it has been busy in there.

I think the mall theater's last day is April 19th. They can't afford to upgrade every theater to digital projectors and there just isn't enough movies coming out on film to stay open.

Heard that Dress Barn is going into the mall. That is a move in the right direction.

This really bothers you, I guess.

    Correct.

There are a lot of theaters nationwide running into this problem. Your small town theaters in the middle of nowhere barely make enough to stay afloat, let alone make improvements necessary to show films.

Be interesting to see what they do with the theater. Knocking it down is about the only option because of the layout unless someone is willing to buy it from Cinemark (which I doubt).

Is the one in the Story City Mall closed then? The same company that owns DB also owns Lane Bryant and that store in the Ames mall closed a while ago. Not a good company track record here, I'd say.

Mtown has been fighting the good fight, thought Menards leaving might kill it but it has prevailed. I pretty much only go to Sports Page and Younkers.

Didn't they just build that Menards a few years ago? I have a hard time believing they were thinking about shutting it down.

Dress Barn was already open the other day when I was there. Hopefully something good can take the place of the theater.
