    National Stats Update

    First the offense:

Stevie Hicks ranks 32nd in rushing ave 90 yards per game while gaining 4.52 yards per carry (5th in ypc in b12 respectable not stunning). By comparison Adrian Petersen is gaining 5.72 ypc, Michael Hart from Michigan is 4.77 ypc, and Albert Young of great hawk accolade is 4.05 ypc.

Brett Meyer dropped in passing efficiency to #47 in the nation. Brett is 38th in passing yards...good for 5th in the Big 12. Through 3 games Brett has been sacked only 4 times (37th in the country, but far better than year ago)

We are 52 in rushing offense as a team and 7th in the Big 12 (by the way MU leads Big 12 in rushing) We are 59th in the nation in passing yards (behind Iowa at 34 and 6th in the Big 12. In total offense we also 59th in the nation and 9th in the Big 12. Scoring offense we are 56th and 8th in the Big 12.

We are #20 in tackles for loss allowed (still some leaks but below our expected ranking from our 37th in sacks) Our Hawkeye friends are best in the nation in this category by the way.

So much for our high powered offense. (Mac was right by the way with his Happy Horsecrap comment...we aren't just depending on our offense to outscore them in a track meet)

    For the Defense.

Bowen remains #1 in tackles averaging 16 per game (second is 13.6). Bowen is also 6th in Solo tackles per game. (the at least 3 solo tackle opportunities he missed in IC, would have made him # 1 in solo tackles as well.

The freshman phenom parker is 40th in tackles for a loss

As a team our defense is 87th in scoring defense (inflated b/c of 20 points in overtime without OT they are 50th)

In yardage, we are 33rd in rushing defense (IA is now 32) and we are 7th in the Big 12 (Texas by the way is 2nd giving up only 25 yards rushing per game...yikes if we don't pass next week never will) In passing yards we are 111th. Combined this puts us 89th in total defensive yardage (not far from our 87th in scoring defense)

Finally we are 24th in turnover margin.

Net a pretty average team overall and mid to below average in Big 12...which kinda matches what I have seen on the field. (By the way MU is surprisingly strong in offense and defensive stats)

If we continue playing as we have I would see us finishing 3rd or 4th in the North with a 6-6 record outside shot at 7-5

    Re: National Stats Update

The stats sounds like "mediocore" the word that every isu fan wants to be changed.

Personally i think it is way to early to be looking at stats, 9 games left, 8 vs. the big 12. Plenty of games left, and from now on no more cupcakes for some teams.

    Re: National Stats Update

I agree it is early and you have to consider opponents, but they often are still instructive. Consider UT is allowing only 25 yards per game and that is after playing Ohio State....They won't finish at 25, but I bet they remain top 10. Being 87th in scoring defense without playing high powered offense is concerning. Having a mediocre offense, especially with decent line play as evidenced by lack of sacks, Hicks YPC with no break away runs to inflate his average and lack of plays for a loss, with the talent we have at the skill positions is pathetic

    Re: National Stats Update

One other thing on Bowen, going back 3 years averaging 13 tackles a game is enough to put you in top 5 every year. 14 is top in nation except for last year when 14.92 was tops. (Hodge and Greenway were #2 & #5 last year)
