Devin Hester no longer a Chicago Bear

Devin Hester knows Bears are going a 'different route' - NFL.com

Chicago has been doing a great job driving away its most famous and crowd favorite players lately. Whoever gets him is getting a hell of a kick returner.

That's what happens to all successful teams.

So you honestly think he's the same guy he was back in 2006? I didn't expect 6 TD's every year but he's clearly lost a step. Not to mention, the way kickoffs are now, he barely even returns those anymore. The kickoff return is almost extinct. It's not worth it to spend on him what he's going to want.

Re: Devin Hester no longer a Chicago Bear

Is Hester going to be a hell of a kick returner next year? Likely. The year after that? Probably. After that? ??? Are the Bears likely to make a Super Bowl run next year? Doubtful. The better question is can they even hang with Green Bay and Detroit?

And that's why the Bears aren't going to sign someone like Devin Hester. He's probably going to demand 5 years with a high sum of money. If the Bears were close to winning next year and beyond, then maybe you sign him and worry about eating that contract later on. But when the Bears aren't going to be contending next year, no way you spend a ton of years and dollars on an outstanding-right-now kick returner and serviceable offensive player that's entering the backside of his career.

As far as "driving away its most famous and crowd favorite players", that's what happens when athletes age and they're not winning.

Absolutely not. He has lost a step, but he also showed in 2013 against Washington and St. Louis, his return ability is still to be respected.

The Bears should not pay top dollar to bring Hester back, but the fact that they're not even going to try is leaving me baffled.

Just because it wasn't reported in the article doesn't mean Hester hasn't already informed the Bears that it will take top dollar to get him back. If the Bears are already priced out of the market, might as well say goodbye.

Serious question: when was the last time he put any meaningful minutes into a game? Yeah, I get it, hes good for a kick return TD or two per year but the money they have been paying him is likely better spent elsewhere.

Define meaningful. I'd like to see the numbers on the Bears' starting field position after an opponent's kickoff or punt when Hester was back to return the kick.

Just because he wasn't making an impact himself, doesn't mean he wasn't making an impact.

Any Bear fan who thinks Hester is a big loss has not been watching lately.
