    Just a thought...

I was looking at the standings and if things go well on Wed night, which they should, ISU will earn its 10th conference victory.

I was trying to figure out how many times this has happened in school history, not only during the Big 12 era, but Big 8 era as well.

I am pretty sure the number of times it has happened is relatively low, and CFH will have 3 of them.

    Here are my best guesses:

    Teams from:
    1999/2000
    2000/2001 for sure by LE

I am pretty sure Tim Floyd did it at least 2 times, maybe 3?

Johnny Orr did it once? His best team was the 85/86 team?

I think Wayne Morgan did it at least once...He had one NIT team and one NCAA team.

So that is 6 times in school history, with out CFH...and CFH does it 3 times, he owns 33% of 10 win conference season done in his first 4 years. Pretty impressive.

If I remember right, Tim Floyd only did it once in the first season of the Big 12. He went 6-8 and 9-5 in the Big 8.

Morgan never did it, finishing 9-7 twice I think.

Hoiberg has had the advantage of 18 games in a season for 3 of these years, but still an impressive feat.

Going one more step- a win would give us our 3rd straight winning season in conference play. The last time that happened is Glen Anderson in 1960-63 going 8-6 all three seasons. (not JO, not TF nor LE did this). Humbling

A lot harder to do when we were only playing 14 conference games.

That is crazy. And certainly a testament to the program that Fred is building.

Yes, winning percentage comes into play (which is actually different topic than presented by OP).

    Re: Just a thought...

More conference games certainly makes it easier. It's still impressive, but part of the reason Fred has done it three straight times is because of the 18 game conference schedule.

    Re: Just a thought...

Lets say you take away the two extra conference games at the end of the year, Royce's team still would of gone 11-5 in conference play and last years team would of gone 9-7. Still remarkedly better than anything we've seen here the previous 5 years from when Fred started.

Not surprising as we just exceeded .500 ball in the last two weeks for our history.

Yeah, and does anybody see a losing Big 12 record coming up any time soon? I don't. Could have a really really good team the next two seasons and beyond.

We played 7 ranked teams in conference, slight chance we'll play 8 in conference. I'm guessing that's above average for Big 12/Big 8 historically.

    Re: Just a thought...

Think about this.....even if the wheels falls off and we lose out, we're still 21-9 (9-9). Most of us would love 21 wins any given year. That is still good enough for a 7-8-9 seed.
