Iowa State still looking at a lot of players...

The Rivals numbers are fluid on recruiting, but overall Iowa state has 12 slots to fill and is actively in the hunt on 32 highly rated prospects. That is the number Rivals knows about, and I suspect there are a number still under the radar. The chess game will continue on which of the 32 (or others) Iowa State wants the most. A drama seems to play out on here and the CR board that may not really be a drama at all. The coaches offer players, if they don't commit they move on. It's easy to panic, but we need to keep the numbers in perspective.
We need 12, and 32 plus in play.

Re: Iowa State still looking at a lot of players...

It is interesting, Chad Rinehart of UNI is one of the top 5 OL in the country in the upcoming NFL draft. Here's from his bio:
    High School: All-conference, all-district, second-team all-state in 2001 and 2002 ... 2002 state qualifier in the discus.
This guy wasn't even first team all state, apparently not highly recruited and will go high in the NFL draft. No 3 stars on this guy, but tell him that. So are there guys out there who can play, you bet.
    From rivals:
    OG

    Michael McGlynn, Pittsburgh (OL)

    Roy Schuening, Oregon State

    Chad Rinehart, Northern Iowa (OT)

    Robert Felton, Arkansas

    Donald Thomas, Connecticut

Update: There are 12-20 senior prospects who could fit into the top 10. McGlynn is a tackle who will convert inside based on his short arms and the fact that he could also play some at center. Schuening is a big-framed kid who moves fairly well for his size. Rinehart has ascended and earned a Senior Bowl invite. Felton really has come on and helped lead the way for Darren McFadden. Thomas has made the biggest move since he has the best movement skills of any senior OG.

Re: Iowa State still looking at a lot of players...

okay, so i just did a quick check over there, and on the recruiting search and database link, it looks like we are still players for 21 prospects with 3 stars or more. 1 is bj daniels a 4 star qb so he is highly unlikely. then there are a couple of 3 star running backs-unlikely but would be very nice to get. 1 3 star receiver still in the mix. 4 3 star offensive tackles. 2 3 star and 1 4 star defensive ends. 1 3 star outside linebacker. 1 3 star cornerback and 2 3 star safetys. 6 3 star athletes. hopefully that adds up to 21? not sure how current any of this is or how high we rank for any of these kids, but it gives a decent idea of the better guys that we are at least still pursuing and have a shot with.

Nice job on count..and I like I said, I expect there will be some names not on that list that land in the Iowa State column.
