    Midweek scores, league standings

In addition to the blow-out in Waco, there were three other games last night:

@West Virginia 77, Oklahoma State 45 (OSU was down 18 at halftime)
    @Oklahoma 64, Texas 63
@TCU 64, Kansas State 44 (KSU had 13 points at halftime)

    13-1 Baylor
    12-2 West Virginia
    9-5 Oklahoma State
    8-6 Texas
    7-7 Oklahoma
    6-8 Iowa State
    6-8 TCU
    5-9 Kansas
    4-10 Kansas State
    0-14 Texas Tech

We are now just one game ahead of 8th place, two ahead of 9th.

I could see TCU winning this one. KSU is not playing well and TCU just beat them by 20 points last night. That would bump us down to 8th.

    I think you meant?

    5. Oklahoma - KU (W), @Baylor (L), @TCU (L?), TTech (W) 9-9

Plus, ISU will play tough and beat KU. And there's a good chance OU will beat TCU, offsetting TCU beating KSU.

    6. Iowa State - Texas (W), @OSU (L), @KU (W), Baylor (L) 8-10
    7. TCU - Baylor (L), @Texas (L), OU (L), @KSU (W?) 7-11
    8. Kansas - @OU (L), KSU (W), ISU (L), @WVU (L) 6-12

Also, if ISU is going to make the NCAA tourney, really need to beat either OSU or Baylor. We are due to just go out and play and get an unexpected win.

I'm certainly hoping that Iowa State will win more than one of their last four as your projecting. Surely they can win the KU game. Sure hope so.

    Re: Midweek scores, league standings

KU has always been a nightmare location for Iowa State. I took that into account in predicting a loss there. Anything is possible, but the inconsistency of this team has me leaning in a negative direction. A few weeks ago I predicted a 2-6 finish and its looking very likely.

Just a commentary. We have had our problems this year in football, volleyball, wrestling, and now womens basketball.

It's impressive that OU has won the last two games without Ellenberg. She ran into a hard screen set by Suttles in the OSU game last weekend suffering a concussion. She did not play in either of their games this week. They play at Baylor next.

    Re: Midweek scores, league standings

Wow, this should be locker room bulletin board material for the Cyclones.

Admittedly it was posted on Friday before the Texas win.

I typically like this site's analysis. Maybe my dismay now it's just me looking at things with cardinal-colored glasses.

But he admits to being a Sooner fan, and goes off on an extended analysis why OU will make the NCAA tourney and why ISU will not.

    The S-Factor
    ...
The S-Factor today shows only four Big 12 teams in the tournament: Baylor, Texas, West Virginia and Oklahoma State. Given the conference's history one would speculate that this estimate is probably too low, and that surely Oklahoma and Iowa State would be offered invitations to the big dance also, like Charlie Creme says. I think this is half true. I believe that Iowa State is likely going to be out of the tournament, but Oklahoma will be in. Here's why.

Oklahoma had a big gutsy win against Texas on Pack the Place Pink Night at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman on Wednesday. As a Sooner fan, I'm still on an adrenaline high from the win.
    ...

And he goes on to write a term paper about this. Just kind of surprising to see so much work going into his prediction.

    Re: Midweek scores, league standings

Meh, big deal. We beat Texas by 17 with an announced crowd of 13,000+. That guarantees nothing as far as making the tournament is concerned. But if we make it to 9 league wins, we get in. 7 or 8 wins gives the selection committee too many reasons to say 'no.' I'm not going to take the word of a Sooner fan regarding our NCAA fate.

I hope he is wrong but really can't objectively counter what he said other than to note he didn't factor in us hosting the opening round. Hosting is going to come in big if we can at least keep ourselves on the bubble. We are going to get a ****** seed even if we get in but that is better than watching other teams play on OUR home court in our absence. If that doesn't motivate the team over the next two weeks than nothing will.

OU is in unless they puke all over themselves to finish. NCAA loves Sherri and won't leave them out unless they are below .500 and they won't be.

PS: In Mexico. Packed my regular sunglasses and left my Cyclone shades at home to rest them for March.

Well, I guess the S-Factor guy reads CF. Hey, Steve, sorry if I was a little grouchy about your prediction. It definitely was thorough. Thanks for the update. Hopefully, we keep the pressure on and continue the winning ways.

    February 28 Update

    Now in:
Iowa State (Talk about playing your way in! Since I posted my "term paper" on how Iowa State was probably not going to get a tournament berth, the Cyclones ripped off two impressive wins over Texas and Oklahoma State, and put themselves back into the tournament.)
