This exactly, we need a decent seed. Don't want to meet up with a 1,2 or 3 until sweet sixteen. Plus leaves more room for upsets of those seeds. The way we play defense and our streaky 3 point shooting we can't expect to beat 3-4 top seeds right off the bat and be able to advance deep.

Of course it can happen, I believe in these guys, but it makes it so much easier if you set your self up with a good seed.

Considering we were just a few plays away from making Sweet 16 last two years, while running into two of the hottest teams around - I would say its not as big of factor as you think. Michigan was not a great defensive team. You also need to be able to score. I think our defense is much better than last year. Niang is really the only weak link defensively.

This isn't like football where (unless you're in the SEC) you can't lose any more than one game the entire regular and post season combined to win it. All you've got to do is get in then win the last 6 games. Is it easy? No. But would anyone have predicted Butler to almost do it two years in a row? No. All we need to do is get hot at the right time and have chips fall the right way and it could happen. Now, can every single team that gets into the tourney say the exact same thing? Sure they can. But why not Iowa State?
I know this is the basketball board and all, but I can't believe no one has jumped on this yet.

    I agree, it could happen.

JMHO, but I guess part of the reason people aren't as jacked up at 19-5 as they were earlier in the season is because since starting 14-0, the team is 5-5; so .500 ball the last 10 games. Yeah, I know, its the Big XII and it's a grind. But so is the Big Dance. Unless ISU closes out the conference season pretty strong and/or gets to the title game of the conference tourney, you're going to have your fair share of fans without lofty expectations.

No matter what, I could NEVER cheer for Dirt and Urine.

Awesome dream you just don't know. Look what Florida Gulf Coast did last year. A #15 seed and look how far they went. Who would thought Valvano's NC state had a chance against Phi Slamma Jamma with Hakeem and Drexler in the final and they won. And we'd like to forget the 2001 loss we took against #15 seed Hampton and we rated I believe 10th before the tournament.

    Re: Why not Iowa State?

The last couple years..it felt more like we had to be "hot" to win. Had to go on that big run..Tyrus had to hit that big 3 to get us going...This year it feels a bit different..at least to me. A little less flash when Georges makes 3 or 4 big shots down low. A bit less emotion maybe? I cant quite put my finger on it..but this team seems like maybe it doesnt have that big flashy burst to it..a little more Niang..a little more grinding inside play when we need it. I almost want to say a little more even tempered team..but im not sure that is correct..Maybe its more that the team doesnt panic easily?

I think where this team has a huge advantage over last year's is in mental toughness. I loved Lucious and Clyburn as players, but they were not extremely steady leaders when the going got tough. This year, Kane, Ejim, and Niang seem to keep their poise which will be huge come tourney time.

I just want a Sweet 16 right now. That is my goal for this season. If we get there at all then I'll concern myself with an elite 8, then a Final 4, and so on.

KU lost to TCU last year. Guess they weren't that good then

    Re: Why not Iowa State?

I think this team really likes a challenge. I don't think they'll be asleep come tourney time. That doesn't guarantee anything, but they will make a game of it. There is only one game this year where we weren't in the game in the second half.

I actually don't think this is always true regarding Kane, which is one of our problems in close games. He normally plays great for 90% of each game, with the exception of when teams rally and take leads in the 2nd half and in 'last plays' where almost every time he dribbles the clock out and launches a 3 without making any sort of move or pass. It's almost like he over-thinks it and paralyzes himself; in the OSU game he made a great last second play in 2nd OT when he was just playing.

We know what we have with this team; lots of good, with weaknesses being size, rebounding, defensive lapses, and streaky outside shooting. If we could just stop panicking when teams make those runs I think that would help in a lot of games.

Heck, wouldn't be that hard to buy into this dream..but a rim protector and not having to double every team's post would make it a lot easier for me to believe.
