    CBS Preview of tonights game

Viewer's Guide: Texas vs. Iowa State, plus bubble opportunities - CBSSports.com

I disagree on the key being how Mel and Georges match up. We were at our best when Hogue was destroying the boards and getting the junk points. That's how we win tonight.

Let's hope Iowa beats Indiana as they have Marvin Clark watching them. Keep the downtrend going in Bloomington.

Melvin needs to have a big game. 19 points in the last 2 isn't too good, however his rebounding has been fine. We need Ejim to score, especially since Hogue hasn't really been scoring too much either. It doesn't show up in the stat sheet but Hogue has been having some good games.

I would be utterly shocked if Clark chose Indiana over ISU or KSU. Even if the Hoosiers get the upset, I doubt he goes there. I'd rather Iowa lose and not be in the B1G title picture.

Seriously? You want EIU to lose games, whereas if they win it helps ISU's RPI and thus get a better seed in March Madness? Not me. The enemy of my enemy may be my friend, but not when it comes to college basketball seeding.

Actually if Iowa wins too much they will jump us in seeding which would be far, far more of an impact than the tenth of a percent the Iowa-Indiana game might have on a metric that isn't even guaranteed to be considered during our seeding.

I doubt an Iowa win on a Tuesday in Feburary would move the needle either way for Marvin, after all they already lost to Purdue and Penn St before scheduling his visit. A bad atmosphere for his OV vs Ohio St would benifit ISU much more in my opinion.

Why yes, I do. I'd love it if they somehow managed to lose from here on out. Our seeding will be fine as long as we take care of our business.

Well, I guess I'm greedy, I'm cautious, and I like contingency plans, as follows:

I'm greedy in that I don't want a 3 seed if a 2 seed is possible. If we win out from here through the conference tourney, I'd be stunned if we weren't at least a 2 seed (record of 28-5, 2nd place in Big 12 regular season, conference tourney champs). In this scenario, Iowa could lose the rest of their games and it probably wouldn't matter one bit. But how likely is it that we'll go undefeated the rest of the way?

I'm cautious in that I don't think it's very likely that we'll win out. The consensus on this board, for whatever it's worth, is that we'll lose 1 or 2 for the rest of the regular season. Who knows what could happen in Kansas City, hopefully we'll win at least one there, possibly two, seems to be the general consensus. Could be better, could be worse.

And this is why I like contingency plans: If we do have some additional losses to endure, continued success by teams such as Michigan and Iowa will hopefully mean the difference between a 3 seed/4 seed versus a 5 seed/6 seed. There's a reason our RPI ranking has never really nosedived this year, and I think the continued success of teams like Michigan and Iowa is playing a role in that.

Re: CBS Preview of tonights game

I'd trade a 3 seed for a 4 seed if it meant Iowa not winning the Big X. Those 2 seeds aren't that much different this year (I don't see any completely unbeatable team that you want to avoid as a #1 seed as there is in some years) and can you imagine how gaggingly long we'd have to hear about that from Hawkeye fans? No thanks.

Absolutely. Our RPI change from one game that Iowa plays is minimal. ISU controls it's seed now.
