    Sports Radio/Personalities

    Why do you listen?

I can't figure out why people get bent out of shape listening to sports radio or shows like First Take with Skip Bayless. First off, none of these guys even played sports. Second, they get paid to be so far over the top to get people sucked in to what they are saying. Everytime I'm on CF, I see people being upset about something so and so said on their talk radio show. Jim Rome, Skip Bayless, Stephen A Smith, Doug Gottlieb, Dan Patrick, Murph and Andy, Jay Mohr, Miller and Brinson never played sports but their opinion somehow matters.

    Re: Sports Radio/Personalities

So their opinions don't matter but yours does?

They're entertainers. Entertainers that sometimes raise good points. If you don't care for their opinion, fine, don't listen, but who are you to tell people what they are and aren't allow to enjoy?

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

Gottleib played college basketball so did DP. Murph played CFB at Valdosta State. Does that make you feel better? If you don't like them don't listen. pretty simple.

Somebody's got a date with Jergens and a tube sock tonight....Easy Turbo!

I just have a tough time understanding why people feed into it if they don't like what they are hearing. Then people call in expecting to argue their point and how the "entertainer" is wrong then they laugh at the guy when he hangs up and say something else ridiculous to get another dumb dumb to call in.

Does this mean Skip Bayless hasn't been lit on fire yet? Dammit.

    Re: Sports Radio/Personalities

Because I find some of them enjoyable. There are many that I don't like. For instance, I can't stand first take. But I really enjoy the DP Show, The Herd, SVP and Russillo, Mike and Mike. They've got good points and while sometimes their shows get long and they talk about the same thing, that's what they make best of podcasts for each day. I'd trust their opinion a lot more than yours!

Bayless and his ilk are terrible and argue just for the sake of argument, but Dan Patrick, SVP and Dan LeBetard all have pretty good shows without the incessant arguing.

    Re: Sports Radio/Personalities

Not a big fan of Stephen A Smith or Rome, but it's more from a personality standpoint than anything. I realize it's a persona, but I choose not to listen to them just like I choose not to hang around people that are like that in "real life". Some people like the abrasive approach to conversations and like to argue for argument's sake. To each their own, but I'm far too mellow for that or to let someone else's opinion bother me.

    Re: Sports Radio/Personalities

I listen to it when I am traveling because music puts me to sleep.

I like Colin cowherd and Dan Patrick for mainstream. Other than that I listen to mad dog radio on sirius. A bunch of east coast guys who aren't afraid to call it how it is and don't care if they offend anyone.

Svp and risilo (sp?) is really growing on me.

    Re: Sports Radio/Personalities

I have Around The Horn and PTI on my DVR at home; watch them every night once my son is in bed and the wife is asleep on the couch. Outside of that, SVP vs. Russillo is pretty good, Jim Rome is ok too.

First Take has to be the worst sports show out there. I get that PTI and First Take are kind of the same show, but First Take seems to just drag on and on and on and on about the same topic; usually involving something with Kobe or LeBron or something NBA related.
