I'd be okay with either, I trust that Mangino will play to their strenghs. It was good to see Rohach progress some even under "the mess". Hopefully whoever it is can stay healthy a whole season.

I have to believe the new offensive coaching staff will choose the player that does the most best and devolps him avid sticks with him. If Rohach or Richardson are even to Lanning, I think you take the redshirt feshman and give a chance to make an impact for 4 years, but my gut says its Rohach based on accuracy

It's a clean slate, start the best QB PERIOD. Junior, sophomore, freshman, or even true freshman.

    Re: Who's YOUR starting QB?

It should be a really good competition between Rohach and Richardson this Spring. My best guess is that Richardson will be starting QB next Fall due to him "picking up" Mangino's offense faster than any other QB. I would think that the QB that gains Mangino's confidence the quickest will have the inside track.

He has shown steady improvement, Richardson has shown the complete opposite. Lanning completely controlled the scout team this year from what Ive heard and read, but so did Rohach the year before (scout team player of the year). It will be an interesting spring and fall camp, but I say the final competition comes down to Rohach/Lanning. Either way, excited to see how all the QB's develop under Mangino. Will be an exciting season for sure with all the new hires
Go watch the Texas game, and see what a 75% healthy Richardson is capable of.

Ditto. Hard to say since we will have a new offensive scheme. I think Rohach has more upside right now.

    Good point.

With Mangino here, and him recognizing the need to have an actual QB coach, I am excited about the QB battle this time. I think both SR and GR showed they can do some things, and the young guys have some tools too.

Richardson was lucky to be 75%. I don't think he was. Yet, he had us on the brink of winning that game. UT's Defense > KUs & WVUs combined.

If Rohach wins it though, I will be fine. I will trust Mangino to lead that side of the ball and for the correct decision to be made.

What Richardson went through last season reminds me somewhat of what Austin Flynn went through when he first was playing QB. If also reminded me of later when Brett Meyer was running for his life playing QB. Many like to point out the lack of development of the QB position - kind of hard to develop if the OL can't keep them upright. Mangino fixes the OL first - he will have to and then the QB development comes after that. Mangino did this at KU without ever having and OL rated over 4* and a majority were 2*.

The subpar defense from the Cyclones gives the Hawks a chance to finally start to get their confidence rolling on offense. Both running the football and through the air.
*Breakout player prediction.... Everyone is going to have their eyes on Allen Lazard because of his hype coming out of H.S., but Derrick Willies steals the show.

Linked is a short article (from several years ago) regarding Coach Sturdy and developing QBs.

    BLACK: Quarterback Building: Todd Sturdy

PS Also recently learned that Coach Sturdy was being rumored to be the new QB coach at USF (mid-January article).

    Re: Who's YOUR starting QB?

Due to the mess we had last year results almost have to be thrown out. The physical traits that stick out are Richarson is more elusive and Rohach as a stronger arm. If one of the younger guys has both arm and elusiveness, the whole package, I would put my bets there.

It's frustrating as fans, but the kid was still only a redshirt sophomore last year and still has the potential for a lot of development. When things start going bad, I think we start jumping to irrational conclusions and want immediate results.

But whoever the coaching staff chooses, I will support 110%. Not having an offensive coordinator named Messingham should help as well. Although after the first bubble screen of the season, I will be calling for Mangino's head.
According to comments that Rhoads has now made, it appears we had several players hurt more than the coaching staff ever let on to the rest of us.

Rohach finished strong. Deserves to be #1 heading into spring ball. After that we will see. A healthy SBR will make things real interesting. I expect Mangino to improve the play at QB alot. Plus, I see Sturdy as QB coach being better than Mess. Hate to beat a dead horse, but.....

So Rohach starts the first game, Richardson also plays. Lanning is #3. Hodge changes positions (although it is still too early). DLC redshirts.

The biggest improvement on offense will be on the coaching side of the ball. We now have a Wally Burnham type of coach in Mark Mangino. And I love the idea of Tommy Mangino being on staff. I bet Mark Mangino is having a ball right now. CPR made a great choice.

Jimmy would be awesome. Best arm in the league. Bullet through the hand and riding a horse yet could still hit the target.
