    Kansas Game Plan

Just thinking about what we could do to stop Embiid. Why not play Gibson and Edoise a bunch in the first half and just foul the crap out of him? Who cares if they foul out, and Embiid gets a bit upset at times. Maybe get him frustrated and in foul trouble. Gladly foul out gibson and edoise in first half to get 3 on Embiid early. Thoughts?

In general putting good teams at the line for a bunch of free throws is a quick way to get absolutely buried.

I think we need to make our open three point looks this time, that might do the trick.

Can't do that, what would we call the strategy? Hack-a-embiid? That just sounds silly.

    Re: Kansas Game Plan

hit 3's, lots and lots of them, by my math Embiid's 2's made inside will not offset an equal number of 3's made by ISU.
Somebody might wanna check my numbers for me.

Seriously, I think we play better this game than at Hilton, no pressure, we are expected to lose, just play free and easy and lets see what happens.

    Re: Kansas Game Plan

Thanks for talking about the game. The "we don't boo" thread is currently the dumbest thread on the board.

You have the right idea, but we don't need to foul him every time. He's not THAT big of an offensive threat. I do agree we need to see Edozie or Gibson early and often. I prefer Edozie as I think he's closer to Embiid athletically. We need to keep them off the offensive glass.

Hopefully Niang can hit some early threes, so Embiid isn't as comfortable sitting back on the arc. Georges and Kane need to drive with the intent to kick it out. We will not get calls on contested layups.

I don't bring my own opinions, just attack others.

    Re: Kansas Game Plan

we have to make shots, plain and simple and limit turnovers. very important to do both to limit ku in transition, make them play half court. their bigs turned it over a bunch with our defensive strategy in Ames, so we'll see if they adjust to that. Tharpe has been playing really well lately, need to to keep him down. Kansas is the best team in the country, IMO.

    Re: Kansas Game Plan

Needless fouls, no, but I would entertain the thought of giving Percy and Edozie some minutes to keep bigs fresh and out of foul trouble, and to add a little size and resistance inside. Plus, starters may have a little more freedom to challenge early in the game without worrying about foul difficulty — that could help avoid falling in a deep hole early (which, at KU, is typically disastrous)

I still feel like maybe they could have gotten more time earlier in the season, but it might have cost a couple of close wins.

Hitting 3s isn't as dependent on the KU refs as a lot of other strategies.

*official disclaimer that I'm not talking about 3s during a dead ball which are 100% dependent on KU refs

    Re: Kansas Game Plan

Need to rebound the damn ball, that should be the only strategy. If we do that and hit our shots we have a good chance to get a W. If we go down there playing like we did against KU the last time we'll lose by 20+.

    Re: Kansas Game Plan

I think when KU came to Hilton all the focus was on us because KU was in a slump at that time. So all the media attention was focused on us winning etc. Now that KU is looking better we are the underdog which is where we thrive. Like jahfg said Niang needs to drop a few 3s to force Embiid to play tighter on him around the arc which would leave the lane open for drives.

Also, keep the ball moving. That extra pass may be enough to get an even better look at a shot. Don't settle on one shot each time down the floor. Swing the ball around and find the open man. Keep KU on their toes and running to catch up to the ball. A tired KU defense is a win for us.
